Subject: Statement condemning the killing of over 30 in the attack on the Sardar Mohammad Daud Khan military hospital, Kabul, Afghanistan

Kabul, March 9th 2017

The Agency Coordinating Body for Afghan Relief and Development (ACBAR) is deeply shocked by the attack on the 400 bed military hospital in Wazir Akbar Khan which is used for military personnel and their families. We strongly condemn such a heinous act and wish to extend our sincere condolences to the families of the victims and our sympathy to those who have been wounded.

International Humanitarian Law, or the Geneva Convention, protects patients, including wounded soldiers, and all medical personnel from attack. Hospitals, including military hospital and other medical facilities are also protected from attack unless they are being used for offensive military operations. Attacks against these health facilities are a violation of International Humanitarian Law.
