Subject: Statement condemning the killing of six ICRC employees in Jawzjan province, Afghanistan

Kabul, Feb 8th 2017

The Agency Coordinating Body for Afghan Relief and Development (ACBAR) is deeply shocked by the attack on the ICRC team in Jawzjan province. On behalf of ACBAR NGO members, we strongly condemn such an appalling act and wish to extend our sincere condolences to the victims’ families and colleagues.

"These staff members were simply doing their duty, selflessly trying to help and support the local community” said the president of the ICRC, Peter Maurer.

Such senseless attacks against humanitarian workers affect the capacity of humanitarian organizations to assist the Afghan people. ACBAR calls on all parties to respect and protect aid workers in Afghanistan.

We stand in solidarity with ICRC colleagues and the two employees unaccounted for.

Director of ACBAR
