About Afghans for Progressive Thinking (APT):
APT is an Afghan nonprofit youth-led and youth-focused professional organization that works to promote a culture of tolerance, openness, and respect.
APT’s primary focus falls into three categories:
Capacity Building through debate and leadership development programs;
Research and Advocacy through publications, conferences, and media shows;
Networking through exposure trips within Afghanistan and abroad, and APT Alumni community events.
Since APT’s inception in 2010, over twenty thousand university students have attended at least one of its activities. APT’s programs have provided university students with opportunities to engage topics in fields as diverse as democracy, human rights, peacebuilding, leadership, philosophy, and business in a way that allows them to critically appropriate ideas relevant to contemporary issues in Afghanistan and the world. In these activities APT has partnered with over 35 public and private universities across six provinces of Afghanistan (Kabul, Herat, Mazar, Samangan, Badakhshan and Nangarhar), several media stations, and numerous civil society and academic institutions across the world.
