How to write your Cover letter

- Adapt your cover letter to the position: you have to write a cover letter for each application.
- Do not duplicate your CV: use your cover letter to show personality, curiosity, and an interest in the field you are applying
- Do not only write about yourself: the cover letter is your chance to explain to the employer why you want to work with them and what they will gain from hiring you
- Use vacancy/job key words in the letter
- Share an accomplishment that shows you can address the challenges the employer faces
- Convey enthusiasm : show your motivation and interest for a particular aspect of the job or the organization, but don’t go overboard with flattery
- Refer to the organization principles and mandate and explain why you share the same values, especially for NGOs
- Be concise : 1 page maximum, ideally 3 paragraphs
- Employers receive hundreds of applications for jobs. If your cover letter is too long, then an employer will not read it.
- It is imperative to spell check your letter. Use Word Spelling & Grammar check.
- Space the paragraphs and use short sentences.
- Make sure you have the correct month and date at the top of your cover letter, the correct company name, job title and name of the contact to whom you're sending the application
