Kabul, Afghanistan. 10 June, 2021. ACBAR strongly condemns the horrendous attack in Baghlan province in northern Afghanistan on Tuesday, 8 June. This attack brutally claimed the lives of 10 HALO Trust staff members and severely injured 16.
Violence toward and attacks on humanitarian aid workers is never acceptable. They are never a target. These attacks were targeted at NGO aid workers dedicated to clearing landmines and other explosives so that their fellow citizens would have safe space to live and work.
ACBAR calls on all parties to the conflict for an immediate end to such deliberate violations of international humanitarian law. All parties must respect and abide by international humanitarian principles, ensuring the safety and protection of all humanitarian aid workers.
ACBAR offers its heartfelt condolences to the families of those killed in this attack, and hopes for a speedy recovery for those injured.
