The ICRC endeavours to alleviate suffering by promoting and strengthening humanitarian law and Universal humanitaire principales.

The Light Vehicles Driver transports people and goods in a safe and timely manner, in accordance with ICRC rules and regulations and national traffic laws and helps to maintain and repair ICRC vehicles and other logistics equipment under close supervision and according to ICRC standards. S/he contributes to keeping all equipment and vehicles well maintained and ready for use at all the times.

Main Responsibilities:

Driving and transportation responsibility (70%):

• Drives light vehicles to transport people and/or material in strict adherence to internal security rules and national traffic laws.
• Constantly monitors security conditions on the road.
• Ensures that goods are stored inside the vehicle according to local, international and ICRC safety standards (attachment and distribution of goods, etc.).
• Checks their assigned vehicle(s)' equipment, general functioning and body condition and ensures that it is kept fueled and clean inside and out.Checks that trips have been authorized where necessary.
• Immediately reports accidents, defects and/or missing equipment to management.
• Can act as head of convoy as needed (in charge of the driver(s), application of security rules and time-frame for the convoy).
• Carries out necessary types of car service and minor repairs on light vehicles, generators and other ICRC mechanical equipment and takes part in welding, body repairs and painting process if required according to the ICRC Fleet Standard.
• Ensures that all service and repair forms (reports) are correctly filled out and forwarded for all jobs carried out, and any intervention is coordinated with KAB-Workshop Manager.
• Ensures that technical and personal security standards are followed as regards their work.
• Assists with fueling and cleaning vehicles where required.
• Is responsible for tools or other property issued to them by the ICRC.

Vehicle maintenance responsibility (30%)

• Checks assigned vehicle(s)` equipment and general functioning of road safety critical components: brake system, components of power steering system, suspension system, tyres and visibility (windscreen, wipers and lights condition).
• Driver is responsible of all the equipment on board of vehicle (tool kit, snow chains, spare tyre, first aid kit, radio equipment, etc…).
• Immediately reports technical defects and/or missing equipment to dispatch office and/or carpool responsible.
• Informs the Dispatcher or Workshop Manager of all the technical problems and possible repairs in due time.
• Ensures that vehicle is kept fuelled and clean at all the times, both inside and outside.
• Makes sure that the assigned vehicle is equipped with all the relevant and updated vehicle documentation (mileage and fuel records, etc.).

• Secondary school diploma.
• Valid driving license B, C (mandatory!) holder for at least five years. License D would be an asset.
• Knowledge (spoken and written) of English
• Knowledge of the local language(s).
• Experience in a similar position an asset.
• Automobile maintenance experience (oil checks, changing tyres, etc.).
• Basic knowledge of mechanics and mechanical safety procedures.  
• Good knowledge of the area of assignment and integration into a professional network.
