More than 80 participants from ACBAR member NGOs joined a two-day training on Financial Management and Budgeting held in two batches in September 2026.

Financial management is an important part of running a strong and effective organisation. For NGOs, good financial planning and management help ensure that resources are well planned, properly managed and used responsibly to support programmes and the communities they serve.

The training brought together staff from ACBAR’s national and international NGO members to strengthen their knowledge of key areas of financial management, including budgeting, financial planning, expenditure monitoring, internal controls and risk management.

The sessions also provided an opportunity for participants to reflect on their existing financial practices, share experiences and learn from each other. The discussions focused on areas that are part of the day-to-day work of finance teams, while also highlighting the importance of strong financial systems for the wider organisation.

For national NGOs, strengthening these areas can play an important role in building stronger organisational systems and supporting sustainable humanitarian and development work in Afghanistan.

Participant Voices

For participants, the value of the training went beyond learning about financial management concepts. They highlighted how the knowledge and approaches discussed could be applied within their own organisations.

“This training was very useful, particularly in financial management, budgeting, internal controls and risk management. I learned new techniques and approaches that will help us further strengthen our internal control system and risk matrix. I recommend continuing these trainings regularly to strengthen financial management capacities within organisations in Afghanistan.”

Sanaullah Ghafari
Finance Coordinator, Magna INGO

“The training strengthened my understanding of budget planning, monitoring and control, risk management, internal controls and payment procedures. The exchange of experiences with colleagues from different organisations provided valuable insights that I can apply in my daily work and use to strengthen financial planning, accountability and transparency.”

Hameedullah Hafizi
Finance Officer, Norwegian Afghanistan Committee (NAC)

The training was delivered in two batches as part of ACBAR’s capacity-strengthening support under the Renewing Engagement in Afghanistan’s Localization through Inclusion, Growth and National Capacity (REALIGN) Project, with technical facilitation from Educa Kabul Management Consultancy Services (EKMCS).

The training is part of ACBAR’s ongoing efforts to support member NGOs in strengthening their organisational capacity and systems. By investing in areas such as financial management and budgeting, ACBAR aims to support stronger organisations that can deliver effective, accountable and sustainable humanitarian and development programmes in Afghanistan.
