DAQQAT Medical Laboratory is seeking a qualified and experienced Laboratory Technician / Medical Laboratory Technologist to join its team in Kabul. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing routine and specialized laboratory investigations, including hematology, biochemistry, serology, microbiology, ELISA, PCR, and GeneXpert testing, while ensuring compliance with laboratory quality assurance and biosafety standards. The position requires expertise in operating laboratory equipment, conducting accurate diagnostic procedures, maintaining laboratory records, and preparing timely reports. The incumbent will work closely with healthcare professionals to provide reliable diagnostic services, support quality control processes, manage laboratory consumables and equipment, and respond to emergency testing requirements when needed. Background
The Laboratory Technician will be responsible for conducting routine laboratory examinations and specialized diagnostic tests while ensuring compliance with national and international laboratory quality standards. The incumbent will support the laboratory in providing accurate, timely, and reliable diagnostic services to patients and healthcare providers.
The position requires a highly competent professional with strong technical expertise in clinical laboratory diagnostics, including ELISA, PCR, GeneXpert, serology, hematology, biochemistry, microbiology, and other routine laboratory investigations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Laboratory Testing and Diagnostics
- Perform routine laboratory investigations in accordance with established laboratory protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Conduct and interpret laboratory tests in the areas of:
- Hematology
- Clinical Chemistry/Biochemistry
- Serology
- Immunology
- Microbiology
- Urinalysis
- Parasitology
- Blood Grouping and Cross-Matching
- Perform ELISA testing for infectious and non-infectious diseases.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot PCR equipment and molecular diagnostic systems.
- Independently perform GeneXpert testing and ensure accurate result reporting.
- Conduct testing for communicable diseases such as HIV, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, Tuberculosis, Syphilis, and other laboratory investigations as required.
- Ensure proper sample collection, labeling, processing, storage, and disposal.
2. Quality Assurance and Quality Control
- Implement laboratory quality control procedures.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with biosafety and infection prevention standards.
- Participate in internal and external quality assurance programs.
- Assist in accreditation and certification processes where applicable.
3. Equipment Management
- Operate laboratory analyzers and diagnostic equipment safely and efficiently.
- Conduct routine maintenance and calibration of laboratory instruments.
- Report equipment malfunctions promptly and coordinate repairs when necessary.
- Ensure proper inventory and stock management of laboratory reagents and consumables.
4. Reporting and Documentation
- Prepare laboratory reports accurately and timely.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information and laboratory records.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly laboratory activity reports.
- Enter and manage laboratory data electronically and manually.
5. Collaboration and Communication
- Coordinate effectively with physicians, nurses, and healthcare personnel.
- Provide technical guidance to junior laboratory staff when required.
- Maintain professional communication with patients and colleagues.
- Participate in laboratory meetings, trainings, and capacity-building activities.
6. Duty and Availability
- Be willing to work night shifts, weekends, public holidays, and emergency schedules as assigned.
- Be willing to stay overnight in the laboratory or remain on-call when operational needs require.
- Respond promptly to emergency laboratory testing requirements.
