From Fear to Safety: A New Arrival at Tdh BHC

Terre des hommes (Tdh), a leading Swiss child protection organization that has been working in Afghanistan since 1995. Operating in Kabul, Nangarhar, Kunar, and Balkh, Tdh delivers integrated health, nutrition, protection, and livelihoods programmes, while responding to humanitarian emergencies and supporting vulnerable children and families.

At its Basic Health Centre (BHC) in Kabul, supported by Caritas Germany, Tdh provides safe maternal healthcare services, including antenatal care, skilled delivery, postnatal care, immunization, counselling, and hygiene support. One beneficiary, Mahira*, who had previously given birth to her first two children at home under difficult and unsafe conditions, safely delivered her latest baby at the Tdh health facility after participating in community awareness sessions and receiving regular antenatal care.

Through quality maternal healthcare and community outreach, Tdh is helping mothers access safer childbirth services, improving the health and well-being of women and newborns, and giving families greater confidence and dignity during one of life's most important moments. In 2025 alone, Tdh reached 172,415 unique beneficiaries across its areas of operation.
