Mercy Corps Afghanistan, part of the global Mercy Corps family, has been active since 1986, empowering communities to recover, build resilience, and achieve sustainable change through community-led, market-driven initiatives. Operating in Herat, Kandahar, Helmand, and Kabul, the organization focuses on WASH, food security, livelihoods, and economic development, prioritizing support for the most marginalized populations.
In 2025, Mercy Corps achieved a transformative milestone in Doghi Qanat Wakil, Rabat Sangi District, Herat. After years of water scarcity and exhausting daily walks to collect unsafe water, families now have reliable access to clean drinking water. This improved infrastructure has restored dignity, strengthened health, and eased the daily burden on women and children, reaching 300 households (2,100 individuals) and marking a life-changing step toward community stability and hope
