OB/GYN Specialist

AAHO is a not-for-profit, non-governmental organization (“NGO”) dedicated to improving the health status of the people of Afghanistan in general and the health status of the residents of Kabul Districts 6, 7, and 13, in particular, through the operation of the Afshar Hospital. 

Afshar Hospital is a 100-bed capacity hospital located in Omid-e-Sabz Township, Darulaman (District 6). The organization provides healthcare to all who seek care, irrespective of religion, race, gender, age, or ability to pay.

Scope of work:

Diagnosis and treatment of Gyn/OBS conditions presented by patients in the hospital

Purpose:

(i)                 Timely and accurate diagnosis and treatment of patients presenting themselves in the hospital

(ii)               On-job training of doctors, midwives, and maternity nurses following in-service training in the hospital

(iii)              Surgical care of inpatients and outpatients

Responsibilities:

• Work for the Afshar Hospital during designated on-duty schedules.
• Strict follow-up Afshar Hospital policy and procedures. 
• Accurate and meticulous documentation of patient histories and treatments following the available guidelines and forms.
• Responsible for all GYN/OBS activities occurring in the hospital during her on-duty schedule.
• Responsible for obtaining written consent from patients and/or relatives prior to operations.
• Responsible for all indications and contraindications of surgical procedures in the hospital during her on-duty schedule.
• Responsible for the implementation and application of existing surgical protocols and standards if they exist, and in case they do not exist, to develop such protocols for the hospital.
• Attend all duties as designated by the head of maternity (OPD functions; inpatient departments, etc.).
• Responsible for ANC Ultrasound and IPD Ultrasound.
• Participate actively in the design and implementation of the various on-the-job and in-service training programs organized in the hospital.
• Actively update her knowledge on current best practice and national guidelines.
• Actively participated in all committee meetings, which need to be present.
• Carry out any other duties assigned by the direct supervisor.

• Afghan Nationality
• Female
• Graduate from a recognized medical faculty
• Recognized postgraduate certificate in GYN/OBS (specialty, fellowship, etc.)
• Experience doing GYN/OBS surgical procedures independently (CS; hysterectomy, etc.)
• At least five years of experience in GYN/OBS.
• Pleasant personality
• Fluent in Dari, Pashto
• English language knowledge preferred
