About Rural Movement Organization (RMO):

Rural Movement Organization (RMO) is an Afghan NGO with headquarters (HQ) in Kabul. It was established in 2014 as the continuation of the Belgian NGO "Solidarité Afghanistan Belgique" (SAB).

RMO retains the former national SAB management, key technical and administrative staff, and other SAB assets and maintains SAB expertise. It, therefore, is the trusted depository of SAB's nearly 30 years of experience and can smoothly continue all projects initiated under SAB management and take on any new challenges, while assuring the same project quality in these fields as SAB had provided for nearly 30 years.

In 2016, RMO formally became Geres (an international NGO) partner and jointly implemented a number of projects on energy, energy efficiency, environment, and climate change sectors.

Mission Overview:

Since 2014 RMO implemented a number of projects in coordination with Geres and in collaboration with Afghan ministries, and local authorities. RMO in Afghanistan mainly focuses on:

  • Agricultural Development, Livelihoods, and Food Security
  • Energy Efficiency, environment protection, and climate change
  • Vocational Training
  • Civil Society
  • Literacy & Education
  • Humanitarian and Emergency Aid

Team

In 2023, the RMO team includes 7 permanent and at least 12 volunteer staff.

Project Overview:

Adjusting to the current crisis context, rising poverty and food insecurity levels, RMO intends to apply a simple framed approach to disseminate Energy Saving Solutions (ESS) and Food Process and Production (FPPs) optimizing 3 main work streams in the intervention Districts:

  1. Selection training, and supporting job opportunities for artisans from the construction sector to set up ESS and FPPs for selected beneficiaries
  2.  Providing vulnerable households with:
    1.  ESS for the ones living in an energy-inefficient house with ESS in-kind (solar veranda, Solar cooker, Improved Degdan and Tandoor Cap)
    2. FPPs: solar dryer, storage, insulated greenhouses ….
    3. Complete training sessions, toolkits, and further support on feed production and process, 
  3. Awareness raising of target populations on climate change impacts & and projects, food production and process, and related energy efficiency.
 

Job Description:

Under the supervision of the project senior project officer, the Awareness Officer, is in charge of designing, improving, and adjusting awareness tools and awareness plans. The Awareness Officer is in charge of organizing and conducting awareness events such as meetings, interviews, success stories, workshops, and conferences. 

He/ She is responsible for the good follow-up of project policy and implementation methodology.

The main responsibilities of the Awareness Officer are described but not limited as follows:

Awareness tools and strategy  

  • Design an awareness strategy for the awareness component of the project;
  • Design and follow up awareness section action plan
  • Design and develop awareness tools for awareness raising of targeted communities, stakeholders, and institutions;
  • Design awareness campaign according to project scope and means;
  • Mapping of potential communities for awareness raising section of the project;

Conduction of Awareness Campaigns

The Awareness Officer is in charge of implementing awareness campaigns to inform people about the project, the developed tools, and more general issues linked to the environment, food security, and energy efficiency. It includes:

  • The organization and conduction of meetings with community representatives (shuras and other traditional councils) to introduce the project and its objectives, to ensure the feasibility of project implementation in their area, and to generate demand for ESS and FPPs; 
  • The organization and conduction of meetings and events to inform communities of climate change hazards/ impacts, projections, and adaptation measures linked with ESS–FPPs
  • The organization and conduction meetings with community members (mainly female) to introduce the project and the proposed technologies (Solar Veranda, Improved Degdan, Tandoor Cap, Solar Cooker, Green Houses, Cold Cellars, and Solar Dryer) and to link households to trained and certified craftsmen;
  • The organization and conduction of meetings with project beneficiary families to provide advice about the use and maintenance of technologies, and about the good practices to reduce energy impact on the environment;
  • Present and distribute awareness tools (brochures, leaflets….) to dedicated community members 
  • Design beneficiaries' feedback form and timely collect, combine, and report beneficiaries' feedback;
  • Follow up and manage indirect awareness raising with relevant stakeholders (companies) for installing of big banner, collecting data, reports, and overall follow up;
  • The organization of awareness events in or close to demonstration sites;
  • The training of demonstration beneficiaries as relay persons to take over the project awareness-raising activities.

Monitoring and Evaluation

  • In coordination with M&E supervisor, design, develop and follow up M&E database for awareness section of the project;
  • Collect, sort, review, analyze, and enter the data into the awareness database;
  • Regularly update SPO and or PM and project team on activities progress;
  • Support M&E supervisor in providing needed data;

Institutional follow-up

  • In coordination with the PM and institutional officer, make sure she well understands the institutional communication plan of the project;
  • Make sure the communication flows through right channels and by only in charge person;
  • Be updated about the communication plan designed for the project team;

Reporting

  • Bi-weekly report for project meetings and line manager;
  • Provide narrative reports of awareness section to line manager whenever needed and/or in due to project reporting plan;
  • Provide visit or meeting reports whenever she attends any event or is part of it;

Perform any other task assigned by project management related to artisan's training and business development;

 

Job Requirements:

  • University degree in environment science, agriculture, journalism, public communications, or any other relevant sector;
  • At least 3 years of experience with INGOs on development projects, similar positions;
  • Experience in community-based intervention and ability to deal with different publics;
  • Must be fluent in Pashto and Dari and a good level of English
  • Very good skills in representation and speech in public
  • Very good reporting skills and synthesis abilities;
  • Knowledge of environment and energy-related topics is an asset;
