About ARWEO:

ARWEO is a nonprofit organization with a visionary focus on the rehabilitation and protection of vulnerable communities in Afghanistan. ARWEO has a strategic goal of assisting the lifesaving and immediate needs of the marginalized population including IDPs, refugees, and host communities in eastern, central, northern and central highlands regions. ARWEO has a history of 22 years implemented 86 projects with 65% of projects in Shelter, education, protection, food security, nutrition, and livelihoods. ARWEO is dedicated to transforming the lives of marginalized children including boys and girls, particularly those with immediate education, protection, and humanitarian needs, and those belonging to IDP, refugee, and host communities in the affected provinces of Afghanistan.

Project Background:

ARWEO is implementing the Youth Skill Development in Climate Resilience & Green Jobs in Kunar Province .The project targets adolescents and youth, with strong priority for young women and girls, returnees, vulnerable households, and persons with disabilities across Asadabad, Shegal, Nurgal, Narang, Khas Kunar, and Sawkay. It supports four trades: Solar PV Installation and Maintenance, Climate-Smart Kitchen Gardening, Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (MAPs), and Home-Based Poultry Farming. The project combines technical skills, life skills, basic enterprise support, safe delivery systems, and market linkage so that participants can use their training for income generation, self-employment, or improved household resilience.

Summary:

The Life Skills Instructors are responsible for delivering structured life skills sessions that strengthen trainees’ confidence, communication, problem-solving, workplace behaviour, health and well-being awareness, basic planning, and readiness for practical training and future livelihood pathways. The role supports both male and female trainees in a way that is safe, inclusive, and adapted to local realities.

Key Responsibilities

Training Delivery

·       Prepare and deliver structured life skills sessions according to the approved training schedule and lesson plan.

·       Use participatory methods such as guided discussion, role play, group work, simple exercises, and reflection suitable for the age, literacy, and context of trainees.

·       Ensure sessions are organized, respectful, and properly documented through attendance and session records.

·       Promote active participation, confidence, mutual respect, and practical learning.

Core Life Skills Content

·       Facilitate sessions on communication, self-confidence, teamwork, problem-solving, time management, personal responsibility, goal setting, and positive behaviour.

·       Support trainees with practical work-readiness topics such as punctuality, discipline, cooperation, professionalism, and respectful workplace conduct.

·       Facilitate basic awareness on health, hygiene, stress management, safe decision-making, and referral to support when concerns arise.

·       Where required by the approved training package, support simple enterprise-readiness and future planning topics in coordination with the project team.

Inclusion, Safeguarding, and Safe Learning Environment

·       Create a respectful and inclusive learning environment for both male and female participants.

·       Ensure that sensitive discussions are handled carefully and in line with project safeguarding, confidentiality, and referral principles.

·       Pay attention to the needs of vulnerable trainees, returnees, persons with disabilities, and those who may need extra support in participation.

·       Use culturally appropriate and gender-sensitive facilitation approaches in line with agreed centre arrangements.

Trainee Support, Monitoring, and Coordination

·       Maintain attendance and immediately inform the project team about absenteeism, dropout risks, or protection concerns.

·       Encourage retention, participation, and positive engagement through respectful follow-up and coordination with Community Mobilizers and other staff.

·       Participate in simple pre/post checks, trainee feedback collection, and follow-up processes as required.

·       Coordinate with technical instructors so that life skills content supports the broader training pathway.

Reporting and Documentation

·       Submit attendance sheets, session plans, facilitation notes, and progress updates on time.

·       Contribute to monthly reports, monitoring visits, and internal reflection or learning processes.

·       Immediately report serious issues affecting trainee well-being, safety, or participation.

Qualifications

·       Bachelor’s degree in teacher Training, Education, Psychology, or related field.

·       At least 2–3 years of relevant experience in facilitation, education, youth development, psychosocial support, community training, or similar work

·       Previous experience delivering life skills, youth training, social development sessions, or community-based facilitation in NGO, TVET, or education settings is an advantage.

·       Ability to explain concepts in a simple, practical, and engaging way for trainees with mixed educational backgrounds.

·       Good communication skills in local languages; basic English is an advantage.

·       For female centres, female instructors are strongly preferred where required by project arrangements and community context.

·       Attention to safeguarding, confidentiality, and safe referral principles.

Gender and Inclusion Considerations

·       Training delivery and staff conduct must respect the realities of male and female learning groups and the agreed centre arrangements.

·       Female trainees must be supported through respectful, culturally appropriate, and confidence-building approaches, especially in women’s centres.

·       The post holder must take into account the needs of returnees, vulnerable youth, persons with disabilities, and participants who need extra encouragement or practical support.

·       Any discriminatory, humiliating, exploitative, or abusive behaviour is strictly prohibited.

Performance Expectations

·       Regular, timely, and quality delivery of life skills sessions.

·       Strong facilitation quality and participant engagement.

·       Proper management of session plans, attendance records, and training documentation.

·       Professional conduct and compliance with project procedures and safeguarding requirements.

·       Visible positive engagement and participation among trainees.

Other Conditions

The role may require travel to training centers and district locations, flexible scheduling in line with training calendars, and support for related facilitation tasks reasonably connected to the post. ARWEO may adjust detailed assignments within the overall scope of this TOR in response to project needs and contextual realities.

Protection From Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) Commitment:

ARWEO has a zero-tolerance policy towards sexual exploitation and abuse. All employees are expected to comply with our PSEA policy. This includes:

·       Undergoing PSEA training

·       Signing a self-declaration form

·       Participating in reference checks that include questions on PSEA

·       Reporting any suspected cases of sexual exploitation and abuse
