Afghan Health and Development Services (AHDS) is a not-for-profit, non-governmental, and non-political organization founded by Afghans on April 7th, 1990.  AHDS is an active member of the Afghan NGOs Coordination Bureau (ANCB), the Agency Coordinating Body for Afghan Relief (ACBAR), and the Alliance of Health Organizations (AHO). AHDS is one of the first signatories of the Codes of Conduct for NGOs engaged in humanitarian action, reconstruction, and development in Afghanistan.

The main office: AHDS is registered as a national NGO with the Ministry of Economy – Afghanistan. The registration number (5) was renewed on 25 Aug 2005 (old number 219 on 18 Nov 1999). Its TIN is 100 005 5 010.

Job Summary

  • Clinical Nursing Care: Assess patient health status (vital signs, symptoms, history), administer medications and treatments under physician/clinical protocols, and monitor patient progress with accurate record-keeping .
  • Nutrition Support: Conduct nutritional screening of children under five using MUAC, identify MAM and SAM cases, refer complicated cases to the doctor, and provide nutrition counseling to mothers and caregivers .
  • Health Education: Participate in health education for patients and families, explaining illnesses, treatments, follow-up care, and self-care practices .
  • Emergency & Basic Care: Perform triage and first aid, manage shock (including IV access and bleeding control), provide wound care and dressing, and identify and stabilize fractures .
  • Infection Control: Ensure infection prevention and control practices are followed, including sterilization, hygiene, and waste management .
  • Reporting & Coordination: Prepare weekly and monthly reports, support outreach activities with Community Health Workers (CHWs), and coordinate with the Medical Doctor on medication distribution and referrals .

Job Requirements

  • Education: Diploma in Nursing from a recognized institute, registered with the Afghan National Medical Council (ANMC) .
  • Experience: Minimum of 2–3 years of nursing experience in BPHS/EPHS health facilities .
  • Skills: Clinical competence, patient assessment, adherence to standards, confidentiality, and effective communication .
  • Languages: Fluency in local languages (Pashto & Dari); English is an advantage
