1. Overall Project Management and Coordination
- Lead the overall planning, implementation, coordination, and management of the project.
- Ensure that all project activities are implemented in accordance with the approved proposal, work plan, budget, and donor requirements.
- Develop and regularly update detailed implementation plans and activity schedules.
- Ensure timely achievement of project outputs, milestones, and targets.
- Provide overall guidance and direction to project staff and field teams.
- Identify implementation bottlenecks and take timely corrective actions.
2. Team Leadership and Supervision
- Manage, supervise, and provide technical and managerial guidance to project staff.
- Clearly define roles, responsibilities, and deliverables for project team members.
- Conduct regular team meetings to review progress, challenges, priorities, and action points.
- Monitor staff performance and provide constructive feedback and support.
- Ensure effective coordination between technical, field, M&E, finance, and administrative teams.
- Promote teamwork, accountability, professionalism, and a positive working environment.
3. Technical Implementation Oversight
- Ensure effective implementation of climate-smart forestry and NRM interventions.
- Oversee activities related to tree plantation, ANR, rangeland rehabilitation, FMC strengthening, and soil and water conservation.
- Ensure that technical activities are implemented according to approved standards and designs.
- Work closely with the Forestry/NRM Specialist and field technicians to address technical and operational issues.
- Ensure community participation and ownership throughout project implementation.
- Promote environmentally sustainable and climate-resilient approaches.
4. Work Planning and Activity Scheduling
- Prepare and monitor the project implementation work plan in coordination with relevant team members.
- Establish clear activity timelines, responsibilities, and expected deliverables.
- Regularly compare actual progress against planned targets and timelines.
- Develop recovery or corrective action plans when activities are delayed.
- Ensure adequate preparation for field activities, including staffing, logistics, materials, and community coordination.
5. Budget and Financial Oversight
- Monitor project expenditure against the approved budget in coordination with the Finance Department.
- Ensure that project activities are implemented within approved budget ceilings.
- Review and approve activity-related budget requirements in accordance with organizational procedures.
- Monitor budget utilization and identify potential underspending or overspending risks.
- Ensure proper documentation and accountability for project expenditures.
- Coordinate with finance and administration teams on procurement, payments, and other operational requirements.
6. Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning
- Ensure that project monitoring systems are established and effectively implemented.
- Review progress against project indicators, targets, milestones, and deliverables.
- Conduct regular field visits to verify the progress and quality of project activities.
- Work with the M&E team to ensure accurate and timely collection and analysis of project data.
- Follow up on monitoring findings and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Promote documentation and sharing of lessons learned and good practices.
- Support accountability to communities and project stakeholders.
7. Reporting and Documentation
- Lead preparation and timely submission of project progress, milestone, and final reports.
- Review technical inputs from project specialists and ensure consistency and quality of reports.
- Ensure that reports accurately reflect achievements, challenges, lessons learned, and corrective actions.
- Maintain complete and organized project documentation and evidence.
- Ensure that field photographs, attendance sheets, monitoring records, GPS information, and other supporting documents are properly maintained.
- Prepare briefing notes, presentations, and other project documents as required.
8. Stakeholder and Government Coordination
- Maintain effective coordination with relevant government authorities and technical departments.
- Coordinate with relevant stakeholders at provincial and district levels.
- Represent the organization in project-related meetings, coordination forums, and technical discussions.
- Maintain constructive relationships with communities, local authorities, partners, and other stakeholders.
- Facilitate timely resolution of coordination and implementation issues.
9. Community Engagement and Inclusion
- Ensure meaningful participation of communities in project planning and implementation.
- Promote community ownership and sustainability of forestry and NRM interventions.
- Ensure that women, vulnerable groups, and other relevant community members are appropriately included in project activities.
- Work with community structures and FMCs to strengthen local ownership and responsibility for restoration activities.
- Ensure that community feedback and concerns are documented and addressed.
10. Risk Management and Compliance
- Identify, assess, and monitor operational, technical, financial, security, environmental, and implementation risks.
- Develop and implement appropriate mitigation measures.
- Ensure project implementation complies with donor requirements, organizational policies, and applicable government procedures.
- Ensure appropriate environmental and social safeguards are integrated into project activities.
- Escalate significant risks and implementation challenges to senior management and relevant stakeholders in a timely manner.
11. Procurement, Logistics and Operational Coordination
- Coordinate with administration, procurement, and logistics teams to ensure timely availability of project materials, equipment, transportation, and other resources.
- Ensure procurement and logistical arrangements support timely implementation of field activities.
- Monitor the appropriate use and management of project assets and resources.
- Support timely resolution of logistical and operational challenges affecting implementation.
12. Quality Assurance and Sustainability
- Ensure that project activities meet required technical and quality standards.
- Regularly review implementation progress and identify areas requiring improvement.
- Promote sustainable approaches to forestry, rangeland, and natural resource management.
- Ensure communities and FMCs have the knowledge and capacity required to maintain project interventions after project completion.
- Support documentation of successful approaches that can be replicated or scaled up.
13. Knowledge Management and Learning
- Facilitate documentation of lessons learned, success stories, challenges, and innovative practices.
- Encourage learning and knowledge sharing among project staff and communities.
- Support development of case studies, success stories, and communication materials.
- Identify opportunities for improving project implementation based on field evidence and monitoring findings.
