Job Description:
Job Summary
The Food Security Specialist will work under the direct supervision of the WDIO Program Head/Project Manager. The incumbent is responsible for supporting the coordinating mechanism of Food Security.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Make sure that the project meets its targets, based on the set objectives.
- Support the linkages between WDIO and coordination structures at the provincial level to enhance food security;
- Support appropriate coordination with national authorities at the provincial level, including liaising and working with relevant government counterparts to support or complement existing coordination mechanisms;
- Collate and disseminate information on food security from the provincial level to the WDIO office.
- Support the development and implementation of the project work plan and related food security (assessments, beneficiary selection criteria guidelines, etc.);
- Assist in the training and mentoring of WDIO partners at the provincial level, as per training needs identified by WDIO partners;
- Communicate food security issues effectively within the humanitarian community, government, and the public domain;
- Ensure the emergency food security and livelihoods program is linked with existing and future development programs for better linkages to avoid gaps and maximize impact.
- Participate in and, when requested, assist in organizing WDIO workshops and meetings at the provincial level;
- Contribute to the production of WDIO SF documents (policies, strategies, work plans, advocacy briefs, monthly report);
- Conduct regular field missions to all regions and facilitate conducting meetings;
- Lead the implementation of the project activities at the district and provincial levels, in close collaboration with local stakeholders,
- Oversee and guide the implementation of the WDIO activities according to the policy, strategy, work plan, budget, and other guidelines.
- Provide regular feedback and warnings on conflicts, and assist with conflict resolution.
- Maintain a good network with local stakeholders.
- Develop a detailed work plan for the implementation of the project based on the set milestones.
- Draft weekly and monthly progress reports based on the procedures and reporting templates provided by WDIO, SMT, and submit them to the relevant department at the Kabul office.
- Coordinate with the M&E team to ensure that the project is on track and meets the expectations and project objectives.
- Ensure that each staff member in the field is on his/her duty and that the SF Program is running actively at the Provincial level.
- Understand and follow the WDIOs child protection and safeguarding policy and that awareness-raising on child protection, response, and incident reporting is occurring.
- Identify staff capacity needs and undertake proactive on-the-job training to strengthen their capacity to deliver interventions.

Qualifications and skills required:
- Advanced (Master’s) degree or University (Bachelor’s) degree in development studies, agriculture, agricultural economics, food security, nutrition, or a closely related field;
- At least four (4) years of professional experience in humanitarian and food security assessment, early warning systems, data analysis, and humanitarian response, or other related disciplines, with national and international NGOs.
- Travel – The position will be based in Samangan with frequent travels to other provinces and the districts.
- Excellent capacity development and teamwork skills; cross-cultural and gender sensitivity;
- Respect the confidentiality of the organization;
- Experience in project design, management, and implementation;
- Excellent interpersonal communications and coordination skills, and proven ability to work constructively with a variety of stakeholders to achieve common goals;
- Excellent report writing skills;
- Good computer skills with extensive experience in word processing, spreadsheets, and other software applications;
- Good knowledge of protocol, good judgment, and initiative;
- Good knowledge of corporate information systems.
