HI has been supporting the Afghan people since 1987, starting its operations in Pakistan. Job Description:
Job Purpose:
Under the line management of the Project Manager, the Social worker will form part of the with project field team together with the Psychosocial Workers (PSSs) and the Physiotherapist (PTs) Worker. The Social workers will:
- Support the Project Manager, and other field teams on mapping the relevant services in the area of intervention.
- Conduct the Identification, Assessment and Referral process of all HI beneficiaries.
- Contribute to the design and implementation, under the guidance and support of the Project Manager and technical support of the Protection Specialist.
The Duties and responsibilities may include but not limited to:
Key Responsibilities:

- Support the Project Manager and other field teams on mapping the relevant services in the area of intervention.
- Conduct the Identification, Assessment and Referral process of all HI beneficiaries.
- Contribute to the design and implementation, under the guidance and support of the Project Manager and technical support of the Protection Specialist.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS DESCRIPTION
1. Referral Support and Service Mapping
- With the support of the Project Manager, in collect and update information on available services within HI’s areas of intervention.
- Regularly contribute to the update of service mapping tools using standardized formats.
- Share relevant service information with team members to facilitate timely and appropriate referrals.
- Participate in internal discussions to strengthen team understanding of the local service landscape.
2. Case Referral and Emergency Response
- Follow up on referred cases in coordination with the Project Manager to verify access to services and assess unmet needs.
- Identify urgent or high-risk protection concerns (e.g., medical emergencies, GBV, or child protection) and take immediate steps to ensure individuals are linked to appropriate services.
- Document and report protection issues in accordance with HI’s protocols and reporting procedures.
3. Identification of Individuals in Need
- During field visits and beneficiary interactions, identify individuals or families with unmet protection, MHPSS or rehabilitation needs.
- Share findings with the team to support coordinated service delivery and referrals.
4. Awareness and Information Sessions
- Facilitate awareness-raising sessions and information counseling for beneficiaries under the supervision of the Project Manager and technical guidance from the Protection Specialist.
- Ensure sessions are inclusive, accessible, and responsive to community needs.
5. Reporting, Documentation, and Planning
- Maintain accurate, confidential records of all interactions and activities using HI’s tools and templates.
- Submit regular reports capturing both quantitative data and qualitative observations.
- Contribute to the review and improvement of activity tools and protocols.
- Actively participate in team planning meetings, technical follow-ups, and trainings as assigned.
6. Materials and Supplies Management
- Identify needs for materials or tools necessary to carry out awareness or beneficiary-related activities.
- Ensure proper request, use, and storage of materials in line with project guidelines.
7. Professional Development and Team Contribution
- Demonstrate active engagement and motivation in daily tasks.
- Participate in capacity-building opportunities, training, and peer learning activities.
- Contribute to common team responsibilities, including identification of needs, referrals, and support to colleagues as needed.
- Maintain respectful collaboration with all team members and adapt to evolving priorities or supervisor requests.
8. Hygiene and Security Compliance
- Follow personal hygiene standards and ensure cleanliness of equipment and materials used.
- Comply at all times with HI’s security and safety procedures.
- Contribute to the internal flow of security-related information to relevant focal points.
9. Ethical and Professional Conduct
- Adhere to HI’s mandate and demonstrate professional ethics in all interactions.
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding beneficiary information and only share relevant details with authorized personnel.
- Comply with HI’s safeguarding policies, including Protection of Children and Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA).
- Immediately report any incidents that may cause harm to beneficiaries or others.
- Ensure all interactions with children occur in the presence of a parent or caregiver.
- Respect a beneficiary’s right to refuse services at any time.
- Deliver services to the best of one’s ability, ensuring care quality and adherence to professional standards.
Job Requirements:
Qualifications and Skills:
- University degree in Social Work, Psychology, Community Development, or a related social science field.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, preferably in humanitarian or community-based settings.
- Solid understanding of community development principles, service mapping, and referral mechanisms.
- Experience in community mobilization, awareness-raising, or psychosocial support activities.
- Ability to work respectfully and inclusively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, including women, men, boys, and girls.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including active listening and empathy.
- Experience working with persons with disabilities or a demonstrated interest in disability inclusion is an asset.
- Proficient in MS Office applications (Word, Excel) and comfortable with internet-based tools.
- Excellent written and spoken Dari and Pashto.
- Working knowledge of English (written and spoken) is an asset.
- Able to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary, multicultural team.
- Demonstrates professionalism, willingness to learn, and commitment to humanitarian principles.
- Well-organized with strong planning and time management skills.
- Upholds and represents HI’s values, mandate, and safeguarding principles at all times.
