Coordination of Humanitarian Assistance (CHA) is a non-governmental, non-profitable, and non-political Afghan NGO, working since 1987 mainly in agriculture, health, education, and infrastructure sectors in more vulnerable areas of the country. CHA is working through the implementation of Emergency, rehabilitation, and development projects for emergency aid for war, famine, and natural disaster-affected families in the field, to assist with the rehabilitation of rural and urban life, and to work with communities for sustainable development in Afghanistan.

Job Description:

  • Conduct assessments and surveys to identify agricultural challenges and opportunities in target districts.
  • Provide technical support to farmers on crop production, soil management, and irrigation practices.
  • Support the implementation of agriculture development projects in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
  • Train farmers and community groups on improved agricultural techniques and climate-smart practices.
  • Monitor pest and disease outbreaks and provide integrated pest management advice.
  • Collect and analyze agricultural data and prepare timely field reports.
  • Build capacity of local extension workers and lead farmers through on-the-job training.
  • Coordinate with provincial and district agriculture departments and relevant government institutions.
  • Provide regular feedback to project management on field progress and challenges.
  • Assist in the distribution and tracking of agricultural inputs (seeds, fertilizers, tools, etc.).
  • Facilitate community mobilization and participation in agriculture-related activities.
  • Ensure integration of gender and social inclusion in all agricultural interventions.
  • Conduct awareness campaigns on sustainable natural resource management.
  • Assist in establishing and supporting farmer cooperatives and producer groups.
  • Supervise field staff and ensure quality implementation of project activities.
  • Prepare success stories, case studies, and visual documentation of field achievements.
  • Represent the organization in agriculture-related provincial coordination forums.
  • Ensure compliance with project donor requirements and reporting guidelines.
  • Support emergency agriculture response (e.g., seed distribution, drought mitigation).
  • Identify market linkages and support farmers in accessing local and regional markets.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor in line with the project objectives.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant Science, or a related field (Master’s degree is a plus).
  2. Formal training or certification in:
  • Crop production
  • Integrated pest management (IPM)
  • Soil and water management
  • Climate-smart agriculture (preferred)
  1. Minimum 4–5 years of relevant field experience in agricultural development projects.
  2. Experience working with:
  • Rural communities
  • Farmer groups or cooperatives
  • Government agriculture departments
  1. Familiarity with national agricultural policies and strategies of Afghanistan.
  2. Understanding of local farming systems, seasons, and agro-ecological conditions in Sar-e-Pul and surrounding regions.
  3. Knowledge of livelihoods, resilience, or food security programs (desirable for NGO projects).

Key Skills

  1. Strong technical knowledge of agronomic practices, crop cycles, and irrigation systems.
  2. Excellent training and facilitation skills for working with farmers and community groups.
  3. Effective communication skills (oral and written) in English and local languages.
  4. Good report writing skills, including ability to write field reports, case studies, and success stories.
  5. Strong interpersonal and community mobilization skills.
  6. Competency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); experience with data collection tools is an asset.
  7. Good organizational and time management abilities to handle multiple field assignments.
  8. Problem-solving and critical thinking skills, especially in remote and resource-limited settings.
  9. Cultural sensitivity and understanding of the local context, tribal structures, and social norms.
