Job Description:
Position Summary:
The Vaccinator is dedicated staff responsible for administering all types of vaccines to children under five, as per the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) National Expanded Program on Immunization (NEPI) guidelines. Additionally, the Vaccinator will administer Tetanus Toxoid (TT) vaccines to all targeted Community-Based Agents (CBA), mothers, and girls. This role is essential for promoting public health and preventing the spread of vaccine-preventable diseases within the community.
Essential Responsibilities And Duties:
Vaccination Administration:
Administer vaccines to infants, children, and adults according to national immunization guidelines and protocols.
Regularly communicate with the provincial cold chain management team to receive vaccines according to daily needs.
Correctly fill cold boxes and vaccine carriers with ice packs, ensuring ice packs are frozen and clean.
Maintain all vaccines at the correct cold temperature, avoiding heat, sunlight, or freezing.
Always keep vaccines on ice packs during vaccination.
Ensure all safety injection measures are considered and adhered to during the vaccination process.
Ensure children receive the correct vaccinations following the agreed vaccination schedule.
Administer vaccines at the right age, with the correct number of doses, and at appropriate intervals.
Use only disposable needles and syringes; correctly use diluents for vaccines.
Patient Education:
Educate patients and their families about the importance of vaccinations, potential side effects, and necessary actions in case of side effects.
Participate in community awareness campaigns to promote vaccination and address misconceptions about vaccines.
Health Monitoring:
Monitor patients for any adverse reactions following vaccination and provide appropriate care or referrals as necessary.
Conduct basic health assessments to determine eligibility for vaccination, including screening for contraindications.
Coordination and Collaboration:
Work closely with other healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, and community mobilizer, and health educator to ensure comprehensive immunization services.
Reporting: Provide regular reports on vaccination coverage and any challenges faced to the health facility management.
Timely Reporting: Inform parents of the next vaccination date and report any issues to the supervisor promptly.
Administrative Duties:
Monitor and request vaccine supplies and related materials to ensure adequate stock levels.
Follow waste disposal procedures by collecting all sharps in special safety boxes and disposing of them according to waste disposal rules using an incinerator.
Prepare weekly statistical reports using standard forms.
Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures as outlined in RI’s policy and procedure manuals.
Professional Development:
Stay updated on best practices and guidelines for immunization through ongoing training and professional development.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance vaccination services and patient care.
Professional Conduct:
Establish and maintain a good working relationship with all RI staff and participate in regular staff meetings.
Conduct oneself both professionally and personally in a manner that brings credit to RI and does not jeopardize its humanitarian mission.
Execute other tasks assigned by the supervisor in accordance with RI policies.
Job Requirements:
- Education: Minimum have initial (3 months) certification or training in vaccination practices.
- Experience: Previous experience in immunization in health facilities under BPHS is preferred.
Skills:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
- Proficient in basic record-keeping and reporting.
Working Conditions:
- May involve working irregular hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Exposure to various health conditions and potential hazards.
