Job Description:
Background
The IPS project aims to enhance the safety, well-being, and development of vulnerable groups through improved access to protection services, psychosocial support, and community engagement. As part of its integrated approach, the project provides critical psychosocial support services to children, adolescents, women, and survivors of violence, addressing their emotional and psychosocial well-being needs to foster resilience and recovery.
The PSS Counsellor is a key role in the implementation of psychosocial interventions, providing professional support to individuals and groups, while ensuring services are culturally appropriate, gender-sensitive, and aligned with international best practices.
Scope of Work
The PSS Counsellor will deliver psychosocial support services, conduct awareness sessions, and provide training on psychosocial well-being. The role focuses on helping beneficiaries manage stress, overcome trauma, and enhance coping mechanisms.
Working Conditions
- Based in Koshk-e-Kohna district, Herat province, with frequent/Weekly travel to field sites.
- May involve working in challenging environments and under pressure.
Job Requirements:
- Conduct individual and group counselling sessions to address Psychosocial-wellbeing and psychosocial needs.
- Develop tailored support plans for individuals, ensuring their active participation.
- Provide psychological first aid and crisis intervention to beneficiaries experiencing acute distress.
- Identify and refer beneficiaries requiring specialized services to appropriate service providers.
- Monitor and evaluate the progress of beneficiaries receiving psychosocial support.
- Organize and conduct awareness-raising sessions on stress management, and psychosocial well-being.
- Promote understanding of available psychosocial services within communities.
- Support the establishment and functioning of community-based psychosocial support groups.
- Provide training to community-based protection committees and staff on basic psychosocial support techniques and principles.
- Build the capacity of community members to recognize and respond to Psychosocial challenges.
- Facilitate workshops on coping mechanisms, positive parenting, and managing trauma.
- Maintain accurate, confidential records of counselling sessions and interventions.
- Prepare and submit regular reports on activities, challenges, and outcomes.
- Ensure documentation adheres to WASSA’s data protection and confidentiality policies.
- Evaluating client responses to treatment over time.
- Provide timely reports and give the reports to the supervisor on time.
- Perform any other related tasks as directed by the line manager.
