Kandahar Refugee Organization (KRO) is a national-level, non-political, non-profitable, non-governmental organization working for humanitarian and rehabilitation roots in Afghanistan. Further, KRO is an Afghan organization that is committed to the development of the local economy and building local capacity for sustainable development. Thus, we have an established specialized network in many provinces of the country in order to design, and implement related activities in the field of food security, research, capacity building, disaster management, and placement.

• Conduct community awareness sessions for 7,560 villagers (50 % women) on:
  • Efficient water use and rainwater harvesting techniques.
  • Tree planting, environmental protection, and reforestation.
  • Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) concepts and preparedness.
  • Early Warning Systems (EWS) and community response mechanisms.
• Establish and engage local disaster-risk reduction committees, ensuring at least 40% female representation.
• Coordinate with village elders, community committees, women’s groups, and local authorities.
• Facilitate interactive discussions using culturally appropriate tools and methods.
• Promote local participation and ownership in resilience and environmental activities.
• Organize and facilitate training sessions on poultry and saplings implementation along with dedicated trainers.
• Liaise with relevant technical teams and ensure technical messages are accurate and locally relevant.
• Support distribution and monitoring of saplings and poultry packages along with materials related to EWS.
• Conduct household or community-level baseline and post-session surveys to assess impact.
• Submit weekly and monthly reports on outreach activities.
• Assist in mapping vulnerable households and high-risk areas.
• Facilitate drills on disaster management and its risk reduction.
• Identify knowledge gaps provide/facilitate tailored training to local volunteers or committee members.
• Act as a bridge between technical experts and community members for practical demonstrations.

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences, Water Engineering, Agriculture, or a related field.

Experience:

• Minimum 2–3 years of experience in community mobilization, awareness creation, or facilitation in rural/remote settings.
• At least 2 years’ experience on topics related to climate resilience, DRR, EWS, agriculture, WASH, or community development.
• Familiarity with local context, languages, and socio-cultural norms in the Herat province.

Technical Skills:

• Knowledge of DRR strategies, early warning systems, water conservation, and tree planting methods.
• Ability to deliver community awareness content in a participatory and locally adapted manner.

Languages:

• Fluency in local languages (Dari and Pashto) is essential.
• Basic knowledge of English is an asset.
