About TLO:
The Liaison Office (TLO) founded in 2003 as an Afghan non-governmental organization (NGO) that emerged from a Swisspeace pilot project (supported by the Heinrich Böll Stiftung) with the aim of improving local governance, stability, and security through systematic and institutionalized engagement with customary structures, local communities, civil society groups, and government institutions. TLO is based in Kabul, with regional offices in Paktia, Khost, Paktika, Herat, Ghazni, Farah, Samangan, Balkh, Nangarhar, Maidan wardak and Baghlan and additional field offices across Afghanistan. TLO works to achieve its objectives through key program activities: research and analysis, dialogue facilitation for peacebuilding, access to justice and governance, humanitarian assistance, third party monitoring and evaluation, and environment & natural resources management.
Job Description:
Background
This project aims to improve health and hygiene awareness among women in two target districts through a community-based approach. A key component of the project is training local women volunteers to become hygiene educators in their communities, thereby ensuring sustainable and localized health promotion.
Objectives of the Assignment
The Hygiene Trainer will:
- Deliver an 8-day intensive health and hygiene training program to 40 female community hygiene volunteers (four training per district).
- Equip the volunteers with the knowledge, skills, and resources to lead weekly hygiene and sanitation learning sessions for groups of local women.
- Contribute to building local capacity in hygiene awareness and healthy practices.
Scope of Work
The Hygiene Trainer will be responsible for:
- Designing and delivering a participatory and practical training curriculum tailored to women with secondary education.
- Conducting training sessions in coordination with the Field Coordinator.
- Covering essential topics, including personal hygiene, sanitation practices, water safety, menstrual hygiene management, and disease prevention.
- Supporting volunteers in developing facilitation skills for peer learning groups.
- Collaborating with project staff to assess training outcomes and recommend improvements.
Deliverables
- 8-day training program conducted for 40 selected volunteers.
- Training materials and session plans shared with project team.
Brief training report including participant attendance, topics covered, and observations on volunteer engagement and comprehension.
Job Requirements:
- Background in public health, nursing, health education, or a related field.
- Proven experience in delivering health or hygiene training, preferably in community settings.
- Strong facilitation skills and experience working with women and community-based groups.
- Cultural sensitivity and understanding of rural community dynamics.
Reporting Line
The Hygiene Trainer will report to the Project Manager and work closely with the Field Coordinator.
Timeframe
The training will take place over 8 days during the two months, with potential for a brief follow-up consultation as required.
