Job Description:
Purpose
Represents the WatHab Unit for matters related to her/ his area of expertise. Provides effective contributions to the design, implementation and commissioning of works in relation with her/his technical discipline. Capitalizes on best practices and shares guidelines, frameworks, tools, and information related to her/his area of expertise. Contributes to the global Network of Expertise related to her/his technical discipline.
Scope & Impact
- Ensures technical design - in the field of expertise - of projects of medium complexity (new engineering technologies or a limited number of stakeholder involvement) and provides support during the implementation phase.
- Provides technical peer reviews within the Unit’s Network of Expertise model.
Relationships
- Internally:
- Interacts with Wathab Operations Managers and Project managers. Externally:
- Interacts with specialists in the discipline.
- Interacts with the client's technical managers.
Accountabilities & Functional responsibilities
- Contributes to setting up technical guidelines and/or implementation and/or monitoring methodologies.
- Is the technical referent in her/his discipline, and within this framework, provides support and advice to programmes and projects managers.
- Reviews, comments and signs off project proposals or technical designs.
- Develops and maintains a network of specialized contacts, including in the private and academic sectors, networks with other actors working in her/ his area of expertise.
- Keeps informed of new techniques and developments in the discipline and supports the organization of relevant trainings.
- Oversees the identification and mobilization of resources essential for project design and implementation, guides the development of technical designs and the establishment of costs and timelines, while facilitating the selection of consultants or specialized companies and managing procurement and contract processes in accordance with delegation rules. Additionally, ensures effective project execution and the delivery of training for clients on the proper use and maintenance of facilities and equipment.
- Ensures proper and timely reporting.
- Communicates lessons learned and contributes to the improvement of implementation techniques and methodologies in her/ his sector of activity.
- Acts as a Subject Matter Expert Contributor, in close collaboration with the Subject Matter Expert, ensuring the upload from relevant resources from her/his practice in the platforms.
- Takes part in the recruitment of technical personnel.
Job Requirements:
Certifications / Education required
- Combination of Masters degree (or equivalent) and/or industry certifications, and qualifying experience in hydraulics, architecture, civil engineering, environmental engineering or related fields.
- Excellent command of English and/or French. One other ICRC working language an asset.
- People management and project management trainings an asset.
- Computer and drawing software proficiency.
Professional Experience required
- 6 to9 years of professional experience in the WaSH sector or related field, of which at least 1 year in a technical field.
- Experience in managing consultants and technical components of projects an asset.
- One year or more of overseas experience is an asset (a minimum of 3 months is required for resident staff applying for mobile positions).
