Job Description:
The Role
Engineer – Bio Medical will be responsible to ensure the optimal functioning, maintenance, and repair of medical equipment. She/he will oversee installation, calibration, and safety checks to ensure compliance with biomedical equipment regulatory standards. She/he will provide technical support, troubleshoot issues, and train staff on equipment usage. Additionally, she/he will manage inventory, evaluate new technologies, and contribute to procurement decisions. And play a critical role in minimizing medical equipment downtime, ensuring patient safety, and enhancing the efficiency of advanced medical devices, which directly impacts the quality of healthcare delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and ensure the installation, calibration, maintenance, and repair of medical equipment.
- Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure optimal biomedical equipment functionality.
- Troubleshoot and repair malfunctioning medical devices, maintaining detailed records of performance, repairs, and service schedules.
- Conduct safety inspections and risk assessments to minimize hazards associated with medical devices.
- Train hospital staff on proper equipment use, handling, and maintenance.
- Provide technical support and guidance to clinical staff during equipment operation and troubleshooting.
- Maintain an up-to-date inventory of all biomedical equipment, including procurement, disposal, and lifecycle management.
- Track equipment usage, maintenance schedules, and repair history using a computerized maintenance management system.
- Prepare reports on equipment performance, downtime, and cost analysis for hospital management.
- Respond promptly to equipment failures or emergencies to minimize downtime and ensure patient safety.
- Develop and implement contingency plans for critical equipment failures.
- Coordinate with external service providers for specialized repairs and maintenance.
- Work closely with clinical staff, vendors, and other engineering teams to ensure seamless equipment operation.
- Ensure all biomedical equipment supports high-quality patient care and safety.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to hospital technology strategy.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, regulatory requirements, and standards of care, including accurate biomedical documentation and adherence to patient safety protocols.
- Coordinate with other hospital departments and staff members to address patient needs and ensure effective communication and workflow across the hospital.
- Escalate any alarming complaint/issue to the immediate supervisor.
- Undertake any other duty assigned by the immediate superior.
Job Requirements:
- Diploma/Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Bio Medical Engineering or a related field from an accredited institute/university, attested by the relevant institutions of Afghanistan.
- At least three years of experience in biomedical engineering in a high medical setting or hospital.
