Job Description:
Job Purpose
Contribute the facilitation of training activities for Mental Health Program (MHP) according to the defined training materials. Ensure development and timely revision of training materials to adapt it to the actual context of mental health demands/needs in targeted communities.
Key Responsibilities and Tasks:
Clinical Work (75%):
- Study professional mental health books and keep up to date about mental health developments in Afghanistan.
- Treat psychiatric out-patients in targeted communities through center based in IAM community center and home-based care by visiting the house of individual patients who may not be able to visit the center-based services.
- Triage all clients and provide treatment plan for every individual PPSDs/CPSDs.
- Travel to different targeted communities to provide training and awareness for target groups of the program.
- Work and develop a summary file of patients who discharge and refer to the other health facilities.
- Properly record all patient’s information to the related PPSDs/CPSDs document.
- Ensure that all patients are treated according to professional standards and values.
Manage and coordinate technical and non-technical activities of community center (25%):
- Responsible for direct management of technical team working in CBMHP community center.
- Ensure multidisciplinary coordination between CBMHP community center and other mental health projects in Herat especially regarding technical activities.
- Identify different possibilities for capacity building for the technical team.
- Participate and lead Shura meetings at community center.
- Participate to the community volunteers, support group and NGOs/CBOs meeting at community cents.
- Assist the technical team to conduct the capacity assessment of psychiatrist and counsellors to identify their technical gaps.
- Initiate and coordinate the case-study sessions for the psychiatrists and counselors.
- Ensure clear patient management process is functional within MHP and all team members are clear about it.
- Regular supervision of the quality and quantity work of all community center staff and provide proper feedback to them.
- Assist the technical team for providing important indicators, patient questionnaires, and keep all the important data.
- Other duties as needed as the department develops.
Job Requirements:
- Specialization in mental health
- Qualified psychiatrist with a minimum of 3 years of prior experience in psychiatric services
- Strong teaching skills
- Good command of English
- Computer literacy
- Understanding of Pashto is an advantage
