War Child Canada’s flagship Afghanistan program advances social impact in the lives of vulnerable children, women and their families through its Justice, Education and Opportunity programs with child protection and gender across all its programs. The Afghanistan Country Program is currently undergoing an exciting expansion with newly secured long-term funding for programs in eight provinces Kabul, Kandahar, Nangarhar, Balkh, Kunduz, Takhar, Logar and Badakhshan, and will expand its program to other new provinces.

Job Description:

Working under the supervision of the MYC Coordinator and in collaboration with the Life Skills/Literacy Educator will be responsible for providing life skill education including awareness sessions with a focus on peer education, problem solving and prevention of violence. S/he will be responsible for providing literacy education sessions to adolescents and youths.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review and refine existing training modules on life skills education and develop new ones as per the needs of target groups.
  • Prepare lesson plans for the life skills and literacy education sessions.
  • Conduct intake and post-session assessments for adolescents and youths.
  • Providing life skills training/ session including awareness sessions on peer education, problem solving and critical thinking and prevention of violence.
  • Deliver literacy education training sessions to illiterate adolescents and youths.
  • Assess and evaluate adolescents and youths on a regular basis (as a trainer, s/he must have the ability and skills to assess and evaluation the degree of trainees’ attainment from the knowledge and skills delivered to them during the course)
  • Prepare and submit reports to the MYC coordinator in a timely manner.
  • Perform any other tasks assigned by the supervisor that are within the general scope of the described responsibilities or of project

Job Requirements:

​​​​​​​Academic Background and Knowledge

  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in relevant discipline (General Psychology, Social Worker, Education, Counseling)
  • Additional qualification or certification in Life Skills Education, Psychology, Counseling or in another relevant field is highly desirable.
  • Experience in working with women and girls and protection services in the field.

Skills/ Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in provision of life skill and literacy education
  • Ability to manage a large number of youths and adolescents.
  • Strong understanding of Life Skills Education
  • Excellent communication skills both in writing and oral including presentation and interpersonal skills: Pashto, Dari and basic English.
  • Should be familiar with the area’s cultural traditions.
  • Capacity to work with young people from diverse cultural background.
  • Good reporting writing skills  
  • Culturally sensitive and keep confidentiality
