War Child Canada’s flagship Afghanistan program advances social impact in the lives of vulnerable children, women and their families through its Justice, Education and Opportunity programs with child protection and gender across all its programs. The Afghanistan Country Program is currently undergoing an exciting expansion with newly secured long-term funding for programs in eight provinces Kabul, Kandahar, Nangarhar, Balkh, Kunduz, Takhar, Logar and Badakhshan, and will expand its program to other new provinces.
Job Description:
Community Mobilizer/ Social Worker is responsible for community mobilization, community coordination, selection and registration of youths' VT learning skills, setting up VT centers, make sure the Multipurpose Centers are equipped with VT equipment and materials on regular and timely manner. H/she will provide technical and management support to youths on the program to develop and implement community-based sustainable programs.
The Social Woker/Community Mobilizer will be responsible for:
Community Engagement and Mobilization
- Establish and maintain trustful relationships with communities.
- Mobilize and sensitize communities, and raise awareness about MYC services.
- Connect communities with MYCs services (work as a bridge between the community and MYCs).
- Mobilize communities and coordinate with respective communities and relevant stakeholders (government department, INGOs etc) on regular bases.
- Support the BDS counsellor in VT training program in the local communities.
- Conduct meetings with local stakeholders including CDC, shuras etc.
Beneficiary Identification and Outreach
- S/he will be responsible for the identification and registration of youths in multipurpose youth centers.
- Identification of marketable vocations based on labor/market survey and selection of vocational training approaches such apprenticeship, life skills or etc.
Support and Referral Services
- Mapping of available services in the targeted communities, update it on regular basis and strengthen the referral mechanisms among service providers.
- Provide direct support to vulnerable families or facilitate referrals to appropriate service providers (e.g., health services, psychosocial support, child protection, or emergency NFIs).
- Maintain accurate records of referrals, follow-ups, and services provided, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with child safeguarding protocols.
Monitoring and Reporting
- Conduct regular field visits to supervise VT program in the targeted communities or workplace.
- Collect and document relevant information (e.g., assessment forms, follow-up records, referral forms) to monitor progress and ensure effective delivery of services.
- Provide weekly reports to the Line Manager, highlighting achievements, challenges, and proposed solutions.
Awareness and Capacity Building
- Organize and conduct community sensitization sessions on MYCs services.
- Raise awareness of community people on MCY services.
- Connect Adolescent and youth with MYC services.
Child Protection and Safeguarding
- Maintain and regularly update service mapping of local resources and organizations providing services to youths, children etc.
- Ensure adherence to child protection policies, reporting any risks, concerns, or safeguarding incidents to the relevant focal points.
Other Responsibilities
Perform other duties as assigned by the Line Manager that align with the project scope, ensuring flexibility to meet the evolving needs of the community and project.
Job Requirements:
Academic Background and Knowledge
- Bachelor’s Degree preferably in relevant disciplines (e.g., Social Work, Social Science, research methods, education etc) with 2-3 years of relevant experience
- Grader 12th certificate: with 3-5 your years working experience in social work/ community mobilization.
- Additional qualification or certification of Social Work, community mobilization.
Skills/ Experience
- Capacity to work with young people from diverse cultural background.
- Demonstrated experience working with children, families, and communities.
- Strong communication, counseling, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse groups.
- Proficiency in English and local languages (Dari, English) proficiency in other languages will be considered a plus.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities under pressure.
- Ability to develop culturally sensitive materials and adapt interventions to local contexts.
- Excellent social work and community mobilization skills.
- Commitment to upholding child safeguarding policies, PSEA standards, and humanitarian principles.
