Aga Khan Health Services (AKHS) is one of the most comprehensive private, not‐for‐profit health care systems in the developing world with community health programs in large geographical areas in Central and South Asia, as well as in East Africa.
The Aga Khan Health Services, Afghanistan (AKHS, A) was established in 2003 as part of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN). AKHS, A provides health care services mainly on behalf of the government including the Ministry of Public Health’s of Afghanistan’s Basic Package of Health Services (BPHS) and Essential Package of Hospital Services (EPHS). AKHS, A is unique both in scale and scope, delivering critical health services along the continuum of care, from Community Health Workers (CHWs) to ISO certified hospital facilities.
AKHS, A is currently implementing healthcare services in Bamyan, Baghlan, Badakhshan, Kabul and Takhar provinces. The agency’s scope of work includes the provision of primary and secondary healthcare, preventive and curative medical care, Nursing and Midwifery education, Human Resources Development and Hospital Management. As BPHS and EPHS implementer, AKHS, A provides technical support as well as capacity building of health personnel, immunization services, nutrition trainings and the training of Community Health Nurses and Community Health Midwives.
AKHS, A draws on internal and other donor fundings to continue supplementary and complementary support to the national health system. Moreover, AKHS, A has introduced innovations, including, expansions of e-Health services, e-learning initiatives, and cross border arrangements. To promote healthy environment, AKHS, A is also implementing net zero and greenhouse gas emission initiatives.
Job Description:
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS
- Developing plans of implementation of IMAM at HF levels.
- Assist in training need assessment on nutrition in the catchment’s area of AKHS.
- Monitor from implementation status of IMAM services including MAM, SAM, IYCF counselling and Growth Monitoring (including BF corner), Nutrition Screening at HF and community level and reporting status of the HFs.
- Ensuring that consultation, diagnosis and treatment of malnourished patients as per the IMAM protocol is done by all HFs.
- Ensuring Preparation and submission of monthly TSFP supply’s requests for WFP and quarterly TFU supply’s requests for UNICEF.
- Ensuring that Food commodities under WFP grant and TFU supply by UNICEF are received timely and distributed to all target HFs.
- Ensuring that all food stocks at all target HFs and districts are well functional and suitable for storage of food commodities.
- Ensuring that all nutrition related data such as MAM monthly statistical reports, SAM statistical monthly reports, IYCF and GM reports are collected and entered in the online database and informing the related manager at national office and PND.
- Ensure recording of all nutrition related data by maintaining appropriate filing system and nutrition project documents.
- Ensure to attend in all nutrition related coordination meetings at PND, WFP and UNICEF.
- Ensure to provide quarterly presentations or need based presentations on nutrition achievements and status.
- Strengthening the knowledge of IMAM workers regarding the best approach for program coverage
- Conduct regular supportive supervision of the health facilities and CHWs in order to ensure smooth implementation of nutrition projects at HF levels.
- Ensure that adequate IMAM related supplies are available according to caseload estimations for each HF.
- Coordinate with the Heads of Clinics, CHSs and other stakeholders to ensure outreach activities, referral and follow up is conducted.
- Coordination for nutrition assessments (SMART, SLEAC, SQUEAC) entire the province.

Job Requirements:
SPECIFICATIONS (MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS)
Education: Registered MD, passing nutrition training is preferable
Work Experience: At least 2 years in BPHS and nutrition field
Skills:
- Familiarity with BPHS and Nutrition program
- Proficiency in computer software MS Office etc.
- Reporting writing skills
- Ability to deal with difficult, often challenging work situations.

- Competent to work with significant levels of autonomy and able to meet tight deadlines.

Technical Skills
- Familiarity with IMAM package and passing of SOP TOT training
