Job Description:
Duties and Responsibilities
The Agriculture Specialist will provide technical expertise and oversight in greenhouse establishment, agricultural extension, and farmer capacity building. Key responsibilities include:
Technical Support
Lead on-site technical supervision during greenhouse construction and setup.
Provide training to beneficiaries on greenhouse management, irrigation systems, pest/disease control, and sustainable farming techniques.
Develop training materials, manuals, and crop calendars tailored to local climate and crops.
Beneficiary Capacity Building
Conduct farmer field schools and practical demonstrations.
Mentor women farmers and ensure knowledge transfer on modern agricultural practices.
Promote water-saving irrigation and climate-smart agriculture techniques.
Monitoring & Quality Assurance
Monitor greenhouse performance, crop health, and yields.
Provide regular technical reports and feedback to the Project Manager.
Ensure compliance with UNDP/FSAC agricultural guidelines and quality standards.
Gender & Inclusion
Ensure at least 50% women participation in trainings and greenhouse beneficiary groups.
Provide targeted support to women-led households to strengthen their farming and decision-making capacity.
Coordinate with Community Mobilizers to address cultural sensitivities and promote women’s leadership in agriculture.
Job Requirements:
bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, Agronomy, or related field (Master’s preferred).
Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in greenhouse farming, agricultural extension, or livelihoods projects (NGO/INGO experience preferred).
Strong technical expertise in greenhouse management, crop production, pest/disease management, and irrigation systems.
Knowledge of Daikundi’s agricultural context, farming challenges, and market dynamics.
Excellent communication, facilitation, and training skills.
Ability to work independently and travel frequently to remote areas.
