Background

EQUALITY for Peace and Development Organization (EPDO) is a women’s rights Afghan non-profit, non-governmental organization founded in 2010 to empower women and youth at the community and policy level in Afghanistan. EPDO envisions Afghanistan as a peaceful, prosperous, and welfare state where all Afghans enjoy equal rights without discrimination. Therefore, EPDO aims to increase the capacity of vulnerable groups, especially women and youth, to enable them to represent their needs in all aspects of development. EPDO focuses on various spectrums of peace, security, livelihood, and development in Afghanistan — ranging from the salient need for humanitarian assistance, economic empowerment, and continuous development processes, to long-term projects for sustainable peace.  EPDO thematic areas focusing on women are Humanitarian Response and Livelihood Support, Peacebuilding and Good Governance, and Human Rights.

EPDO seeks to recruit a senior finance officer who will be part of the finance team and involved in the day-to-day activities of the EPDO finance department to ensure timely, accurate, and secure processing of accounting information including the daily transaction processes and documentation, accounting reports, and statement including donor finance projects by laid down rules and procedures.

 

Purpose of the Position

The Internal Auditor is responsible for evaluating and improving the effectiveness of risk management, internal controls, and governance processes across the organization. This position plays a key role in ensuring financial integrity, operational efficiency, and compliance with internal policies and donor requirements.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the annual internal audit plan, in consultation with senior management
  • Conduct regular internal audits of financial records, procurement processes, program expenditures, and administrative operations.
  • Verify that expenditures are in line with approved budgets, donor agreements, and organizational policies.
  • Assess the adequacy, effectiveness, and efficiency of internal control systems and recommend improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, donor requirements, and internal policies.
  • Identify risks and weaknesses that may affect the organization’s ability to achieve its objectives.
  • Recommend practical solutions and mitigation strategies for identified risks.
  • Follow up on implementation of corrective actions.
  • Prepare clear and concise audit reports for senior management
  • Communicate findings, risks, and recommendations to relevant stakeholders.
  • Work closely with finance, procurement, HR, and program teams to strengthen accountability mechanisms.
  • Provide guidance and training to staff on internal control systems, risk management, and compliance requirements.
  • Promote a culture of integrity, accountability, and ethical conduct across the organization.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Auditing, Business Administration, or related field (Master’s degree or professional certification such as CPA, ACCA, CIA is an advantage).
  • Experience: At least 3–5 years of progressive experience in auditing, financial management, or compliance (preferably with NGOs or donor-funded projects).
    • Strong understanding of internal control systems, risk management, and donor compliance
    • Excellent analytical, reporting, and problem-solving skills.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
    • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professional ethics.
  • Languages: Fluency in English, Dari and Pashto languages (written and spoken).
