Tdh has been working in Afghanistan since 1995 and carry out projects related to Child Protection, Access to Justice, Mother and Child Health and Livelihood Programs in Kabul and Nangarhar provinces.
Job Description:
The nurse is responsible for overall supporting and providing the medicine according to the described examination of the medical doctor and midwives for the project’s activities in earthquake-affected area provinces. The Nurse closely cooperates with the medical doctors and midwives in the teams and ensures quality, accountability of deliverables, and respect for deadlines. Under the supervision of the medical doctor, the provider provides technical support and advice and works in close collaboration with the team of midwives and social workers.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Register and undertake growth monitoring including weight, height, and upper Arm Circumference Measurement of all children under two years of age.
- Classify children in normal, Moderate Acute malnutrition (MAM), and Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) categories.
- Community sensitization and conduct counselling for caregivers of all under two years of children on appropriate infant and young child feeding (IYCF) practices and prevention of infections based on their status.
- The SAM cases should be referred to the doctor for giving adequate treatment.
- Administer Vitamin A if the child has not received Vitamin A supplementation during the previous NID.
- Promote consumption of iodized salt.
- Triage the patients and provide first aid
- Manage shock including open vein and control of bleeding
- Wound care and dressing.
- Identification of fractures including neck, and spinal cord, and their stabilization/immobilization.
- Cooperate with the doctor in the distribution of medicine to the patients
- Assess the psychosocial status of affected people
- Provide psychosocial counselling for individuals and groups
- Refer complicated cases to the doctor or higher levels and follow up on cases
- Provide weekly and monthly reports
- Update the status of the patient with the medical report in the patient's file
- Responsible for the status, dignity, intimacy, and hygiene of the patient
- Assume the mobility of the patient to avoid a decubitus ulcer.
- Assume the parameters (temperature, RR, pulse, etc) and the treatment are written on the patient file and followed.
- Take the parameter( temperature, pulse, RR, Blood pressure, etc)
- Inform the MA or the Medical Doctor responsible for any change in the status of the patient
Competencies
- Clinical skills - Provide primary care, manage common illnesses, and handle emergencies (first aid). And act as a medical doctor while the doctor is on leave.
- Community health - Educate on hygiene, vaccination, maternal and child health, and basic mental health awareness.
- Technology use - Operate mobile health tools, keep records, and use telemedicine.
- Adaptability - Work in remote/conflict settings, flexible and resourceful.
- Cultural sensitivity - Respect local traditions, build trust with communities.
- Teamwork & coordination - Collaborate with health workers and local authorities.
Job Requirements:

- Language Knowledge: Be able to speak the national language
- Received training in the nutrition package in an emergency
