Its work has included building schools and irrigation systems, advancing sustainable agriculture, promoting women’s economic empowerment, and strengthening governance and social accountability.

Job Description:

Reports to: Education Project Manager / Education Program Head
Supervises: Education Officers, Teachers, and Trainers (as assigned)
Contract Type: Fixed-term

Purpose of the Role

The Education Specialist provides technical expertise, guidance, and oversight to ensure that education programs are of high quality, inclusive, and aligned with national standards and organizational priorities. The role focuses on curriculum development, teacher capacity building, and quality assurance to improve learning outcomes for children and youth.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Support & Curriculum Development

  • Provide technical input in the design and adaptation of curricula, training materials, and teaching aids.

  • Ensure integration of child-centered, gender-sensitive, and inclusive pedagogical approaches.

  • Support the development of life skills, literacy, and vocational components where applicable.

Teacher Capacity Building

  • Design and deliver training and mentoring programs for teachers and facilitators.

  • Conduct classroom observations and provide feedback for continuous improvement.

  • Promote active learning, participatory methodologies, and inclusive classroom practices.

Quality Assurance

  • Establish and monitor standards for education delivery to ensure relevance and effectiveness.

  • Work closely with M&E staff to measure learning outcomes and assess program impact.

  • Identify challenges in the field and propose innovative solutions for improvement.

Coordination & Advocacy

  • Liaise with government education authorities, community leaders, and partner organizations.

  • Contribute to coordination forums and share lessons learned to strengthen sectoral collaboration.

  • Advocate for inclusive and equitable access to education for girls, children with disabilities, and other marginalized groups.

Monitoring & Reporting

  • Support the development of monitoring tools for classroom practices and learner progress.

  • Provide technical input into donor and organizational reports.

  • Document best practices, case studies, and success stories for knowledge sharing.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications & Experience

  • Master’s degree in Education, Pedagogy, or Social Sciences (Bachelor’s degree with strong relevant experience may be considered).

  • At least 4–5 years of professional experience in education programming, curriculum development, or teacher training.

  • Strong understanding of inclusive education, gender mainstreaming, and child protection.

  • Experience in education in emergencies or non-formal education programs is an asset.

  • Proven experience in teacher mentoring, capacity building, and classroom quality improvement.

  • Fluency in Dari and/or Pashto; working knowledge of English preferred.
