Job Description:

Reports to: Education Project Manager / IT Officer / Education Specialist
Supervises: Lab users and trainers
Contract Type: Fixed-term

Purpose of the Role

The IT Assistant for Computer Lab will be responsible for maintaining computer equipment, ensuring smooth operation of the labs, and supporting teachers, students, and staff in the effective use of technology. The role ensures that the computer lab provides a safe, accessible, and productive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

Lab Management & Technical Support

  • Ensure all computers, laptops, printers, and related equipment in the lab are installed, maintained, and functional.

  • Provide first-level troubleshooting for hardware, software, and network issues.

  • Maintain inventory of IT equipment, accessories, and software licenses.

  • Ensure safe use of lab facilities and enforce lab rules and guidelines.

User Support & Training

  • Provide basic technical support and guidance to students and teachers using the lab.

  • Support trainers in conducting IT-related lessons or workshops.

  • Assist in orientation sessions for students on computer usage, internet safety, and digital literacy.

System & Data Management

  • Regularly update and maintain software, antivirus protection, and system backups.

  • Ensure secure storage and responsible use of data.

  • Support in establishing user accounts and access rights when required.

Coordination & Reporting

  • Coordinate with the IT Officer or Program Manager for procurement, repair, or replacement of equipment.

  • Provide regular reports on lab usage, equipment status, and challenges.

  • Support the integration of IT into broader education activities.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications & Experience

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.

  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in IT support, preferably with NGOs, schools, or training centers.

  • Knowledge of computer hardware, software, networking, and troubleshooting.

  • Familiarity with internet safety, digital literacy, and basic teaching support.

  • Fluency in Dari and/or Pashto; working knowledge of English is an asset.
