About Rural Movement Organization (RMO):
Rural Movement Organization (RMO) is an Afghan NGO. It was established in 2010 and registered with Afghan ministry of economy in 2014. RMO is established as the continuation of the Belgian NGO "Solidarité Afghanistan Belgique" (SAB).
As a replacement of Solidarity Belgium Afghanistan (SAB), RMO has a long experience on implementing vocational training, agriculture, education and emergency response projects. On top of it, RMOcollaborated with and became a formal partner of Geres (www.geres.eu) for around 10 years, which enabled RMO to achieve an excellent experience and knowledge in thein-house energy efficiency environment protection and climate change sectors. In the past 10 years, together with Geres, RMO implemented a number of medium to big size projects in Kabul, Bamyan, Maidan Wardak and Badakhshan Provinces.
RMO operations include work on market-based solutions, developing value chains asthese create jobs and are often key to the sustainability of the solutions deployed.In both urban and rural settings, RMO has also contributed to technical improvements to the agriculture and vegetable production sector by building passive solar greenhouses, bioclimatic cellars as well as innovative solutions including, trainings, toolkit and marketing support to women beneficiaries on food process and production.
Project Overview:
“Enhancing Climate Adaptation and Livelihoods in Bamyan through anticipatory action, Inclusive DRR, NRM, and Women Empowerment” Is funding by UNOCHA via Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund (AHF). The project is supposed to be implemented by 3 partner NGOs (SI) as leader and RMO and WCOD as partners. The project will be implemented in Yakawlang district of Bamyan province.
The project aims to enhance climate adaptation and strengthen community resilience in the Yakawlang district by addressing the challenges of climate change, environmental degradation, and economic vulnerability. Focusing on DRR, sustainable natural resources management (NRM), and women’s empowerment, the project seeks to improve the livelihoods of the most vulnerable communities while reducing their reliance on harmful coping mechanisms.
Through the construction of essential DRR infrastructures, such as flood mitigation systems, and the provision of winterization support, the project will reduce the immediate impacts of climate-related shocks. The introduction of climate-resilient agricultural techniques, including agroforestry, and the promotion of cost-efficient energy solutions to reduce dependence on firewood, will also contribute to reducing environmental degradation
Job Description:
Under the supervision of the provincial team leader, the awareness officer is in charge of conducting awareness campaigns in project-targeted areas. Specifically, the awareness officers are responsible for:
- Learn about the awareness component of the project, awareness policy, and tools to be used,
- Locally manage awareness tools (brochures, posters, leaflets, etc)
- Design an awareness action plan due to the project proposal
- Design awareness campaign according to project scope and means;
- In coordination with field officers and community leaders, organize awareness events at the field level
- Prepare a written speech and or presentation for each type of awareness event
- Follow up and support the awareness sessions and training to communities about energy saving solutions, climate change impacts and projects, environmental issues etc.
- Follow up and regularly update of awareness database, record all awareness events, participants
- Support the head office in designing and regularly updating awareness tools and policy in conformity with the awareness section objectives;
- Support technical team and trained artisans for ESS (energy saving solutions) – FPP (food process and production) implementation
- In charge of providing use and maintenance training to ESS-FPP users on
- Prepare and consolidate awareness section reports and share with the line manager as per the agreed scenario;
- Attend meetings and present awareness sections at consortium meetings with other partners (if required)
- Regularly report the awareness section progress and challenges
- Attend to project meetings, workshops, and events, present awareness section activities, progress, and challenges
M&E Activities
The Awareness Officer participates in monitoring and evaluation activities through: planning and reporting of their activities on a weekly basis according to the project M&E system; monitoring of awareness section activities according to the project M&E system.
The Awareness Officer participates actively in the implementation of specific monitoring campaigns for the developed technologies, e.g. fuel and temperature monitoring in winter, need assessments, and surveys.
The Awareness Officer can be requested to take part to additional punctual surveys.
Job Requirements:
- University degree, from a well-known national or international university in a related field;
- Experience in community-based intervention and ability to deal with different publics
- Excellent communication skills;
- At least 3 years of experience in awareness-raising activities
- Experience with AHF-funded projects is a plus
- Experience of conflict zone and conflict management
- Capacity to handle multiple tasks at one time and demonstrate flexibility to adapt to a challenging environment
- Fluent in Dari and good in English, knowing Pashto is a plus.
- Good IT skills with knowledge of computers,
- Excellent reporting skills and synthesis abilities
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team
- Be adapted to a hard-working environment.
