Job Description:
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
To provide maternal, newborn, and child health services, nutrition counseling, and community health promotion. The role ensures quality care during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum, educates families on reproductive and nutritional health, and strengthens community engagement to enhance health awareness.
Maternal and Reproductive Health:
- Educate patients and their families on reproductive health, antenatal care, and preparation for parenthood.
- Assist patients in developing suitable birth plans.
- Teach pain management techniques to prepare women for labor.
- Support patients and families coping with miscarriages, stillbirths, neonatal deaths, or terminations.
- Provide advice on diets, exercises, and medications appropriate during pregnancy.
- Refer women and newborns internally or externally when specialized care is needed.
Community Health Promotion:
- Conduct project orientation and mobilization sessions with community elders, men, and women.
- Plan and deliver daily and monthly health awareness sessions according to project methodology.
- Organize regular community sensitization and education sessions for beneficiaries.
- Prepare materials for health and nutrition promotion sessions.
- Develop contacts and explain project activities and objectives to stakeholders and local authorities.
Nutrition Counseling & Child Health:
- Conduct regular health, nutrition, and community education sessions.
- Measure children’s weight, height, and mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC).
- Interpret anthropometric data and chart children’s growth on growth cards.
- Provide tailored nutritional advice to mothers to improve child nutrition.
- Refer pregnant and breastfeeding women with advanced breast or gynecological issues.
- Refer children to vaccination services and other relevant healthcare departments.
Reporting & Documentation:
- Record all information in designated reporting tools.
- Prepare reports of activities and share with supervisors or project management.
Job Requirements:
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Degree/Diploma in Midwifery, Nutrition, Public Health, or a related field.
- Relevant experience in maternal and child health, nutrition counseling, and community health promotion.
- Knowledge of reproductive health, antenatal care, and child nutrition best practices.
- Experience working in community-based health programs.
- Ability to communicate effectively with communities and stakeholders.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong counseling and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to conduct educational sessions and training for diverse audiences.
- Accurate record-keeping and reporting skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Culturally sensitive and able to build trust within communities
Working Conditions
- Based in Herat City, with frequent travel to field sites.
- May involve working in challenging environments and under pressure.
