About Afghanistan Rehabilitation and Education Program (AREP):

Afghanistan Rehabilitation and Educational Program (AREP) was established in 1994 as an independent non-governmental, non-profit organization, AREP's learning experience as a development organization comes from its working association with communities in different areas of Afghanistan. More importantly, the development and growth of the organization have been through an evolutionary process, AREP registered with the Ministry of Economy and member of Education international, ACBER, ANCB and DUKE OF EDINBURGH’S (The International Award for Young People). Job Description:

Monitor the implementation of the Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP), Resettlement Action Plans (RAP), and other safeguard instruments.

Conduct regular site assessments to identify environmental and social risks.

Ensure compliance with environmental laws, waste management protocols, biodiversity protection, and pollution control measures.

Support environmental impact assessments (EIAs) and stakeholder consultations.

Support capacity building for local partners and subcontractors.

Identify potential risks during the project lifecycle and propose mitigation measures.

Participate in project design reviews to integrate ESHS considerations into planning

Implement workplace safety protocols in line with local labor laws and international standards (e.g., ILO, ISO 45001).

Conduct routine health and safety inspections, audits, and incident investigations.

Promote a safety culture through training, awareness sessions, and provision of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Monitor accident logs and lead on incident response planning and corrective action implementation.

Engage with affected communities, workers, and stakeholders to ensure social issues are addressed. Maintain grievance redress mechanisms (GRM), log and track complaints, and ensure resolution.

Support public consultations and information disclosure in line with ESHS communication strategies. Maintain accurate records of environmental, social, and safety activities.

Prepare monthly and quarterly ESHS performance reports for internal use and donor compliance.

Support donor and regulatory audits by providing required ESHS documentation.

Train staff, contractors, and workers on ESHS standards and requirements.

Develop job aids, posters, and ESHS guidance materials tailored to the local context.

Job Requirements:

A bachelor's degree in environmental science, social science (or a related field) and 4 years of professional relevant experience inclusive of managing gender-based violence and medical waste management, Grievances Redressal, familiar with Microsoft office package and report writing.

Knowledge of World Bank or ADB and Afghanistan's Environmental and Social Legislations and frameworks is an asset.
