Job Description:

Job Summary:

The Pharmacy Manager is responsible for overseeing the procurement, storage, and distribution of drugs and medical supplies, ensuring compliance with MOPH and WHO standards. The role includes supervising and training pharmacy staff, managing inventory and stock levels, conducting quality assurance checks, and coordinating with procurement, logistics, and finance teams. Additionally, the Pharmacy Manager promotes ethical conduct, safety, and professionalism across all pharmacy operations.

Responsibilities:

1. Procurement and Inventory Management

  • Oversee all procurement processes for drugs and medical supplies.
  • Establish and enforce stock management, hygiene, and security protocols across all RI pharmacies.
  • Monitor stock levels to prevent shortages or overstocking.
  • Ensure safe, temperature-controlled, and compliant storage conditions for all pharmaceutical items.

2. Quality Assurance and Compliance

  • Ensure all drugs comply with MOPH and WHO quality standards and certifications.
  • Lead validation and inspection of supplier deliveries before distribution.
  • Conduct inventory audits and maintain full traceability and documentation for all items.

3. Capacity Building and Supervision

  • Supervise, coach, and train pharmacy staff to maintain operational excellence.
  • Conduct regular technical support visits and refresher trainings on drug storage and equipment maintenance.
  • Coordinate with procurement and logistics teams to ensure operational integration.

4. Reporting and Coordination

  • Prepare monthly reports on stock levels, usage, and distribution.
  • Liaise with provincial and national pharmaceutical coordination platforms.
  • Collaborate with MEAL and finance teams to ensure data accuracy and budget alignment.

5. Behavior and Conduct

  • Uphold the highest standards of professional behavior, both inside and outside of work, in line with KBHAO’s code of conduct and safeguarding policies.
  • Serve as a role model for ethical conduct for all team members.
  • Ensure personal actions and those of the team do not compromise the safety of KBHAO staff or the vulnerable communities served.
  • Promote awareness of KBHAO’s conduct and reporting mechanisms among external stakeholders.
  • Report any concerns or breaches promptly and appropriately.

Job Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy
  • Experience: At least 5 years of professional experience.
  • Experience in quality assurance activities in pharmaceutical procurements would be an added advantage. 
  • Strong knowledge of Afghan pharmaceutical regulations and MoPH protocols.
  • Experience in health NGO sector and emergency supply chain.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of BPHS/EPHS standards.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Fluent in English and Pashto and Dari.
