Job Description:

  1. Background

Under the Maternal and Child Benefit Program (MCBP), the Nutrition-Sensitive Livelihoods (NSL) component aims to enhance the food security, nutrition, and resilience of vulnerable households in selected districts. The NSL component focuses on building the practical and entrepreneurial capacities of targeted beneficiaries so they can engage in income-generating and nutrition-improving activities that contribute to sustainable household wellbeing.

  1. Purpose of the Position

The NSL Supervisor will oversee the implementation and quality of all training and coaching activities under the NSL component in Sayad District. The supervisor will ensure that training sessions are delivered according to plan, monitor beneficiary attendance and curriculum progress, provide support and guidance to trainers, and ensure the overall effectiveness and consistency of training centers. The position plays a key role in maintaining coordination between trainers, beneficiaries, and the project management team to ensure smooth delivery of all livelihood interventions.

  1. Key Responsibilities and Duties

 

A. Supervision and Coordination

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of both NSL training centers located in Markaz-e-Sayad.
  • Ensure trainers conduct sessions according to the approved curriculum, lesson plan, and training schedule.
  • Monitor classroom management, training methods, and the quality of delivery to ensure consistency across all sessions.
  • Coordinate with trainers/coaches to identify challenges in training delivery and provide timely support or solutions.
  • Ensure that both training centers operate efficiently and maintain a conducive learning environment.

B. Monitoring and Reporting

  • Track and record beneficiary attendance daily and ensure proper documentation and filing.
  • Monitor training progress to ensure curriculum coverage within the allotted time frame.
  • Conduct periodic spot checks and observations to assess the quality of training and beneficiary engagement.
  • Collect and consolidate data from trainers for inclusion in weekly and monthly progress reports.
  • Provide feedback to trainers and the Project Manager on training quality, performance, and beneficiary outcomes.
  • Document success stories, lessons learned, and best practices to support project learning and donor reporting.

C. Support and Capacity Building

  • Mentor and support trainers to strengthen their facilitation and reporting skills.
  • Assist in problem-solving during training implementation and suggest improvements for future sessions.
  • Facilitate coordination between trainers, community leaders, and beneficiaries to enhance participation and inclusiveness.
  • Promote adherence to MAAO and WFP standards and ensure safeguarding principles are upheld at all times.

D. Compliance and Conduct

  • Ensure all activities align with organizational policies, donor standards, and project objectives.
  • Adhere to MAAO’s Code of Conduct, PSEA, and Child Protection policies.
  • Maintain neutrality and professionalism, avoiding favoritism or bias in all dealings.
  • Uphold gender equality and respect for all participants, particularly female beneficiaries.

4. Expected Deliverables

  • Weekly and monthly supervision reports summarize training progress, attendance, and challenges.
  • Feedback reports highlighting trainer performance and recommendations for improvement.
  • Documented success stories, lessons learned, and case studies from training centers.
  • Well-functioning training centers with maintained records, materials, and attendance sheets.

7. Monitoring and Quality Assurance

  • Conduct regular field visits to observe training delivery and provide constructive feedback.
  • Ensure data accuracy, proper record-keeping, and adherence to project indicators.
  • Recommend corrective actions and improvements to the Project Manager based on field observations and feedback.

  • The duties and responsibilities set out above are not exhaustive, and the postholder may be required to carry out additional duties from time to time, subject to change with the evolution of the project progress and in accordance with project nature, MAAO, and donor requirements, which are reasonable in relation to their level of skills and experience. The livelihood supervisor is required to carry out the tasks that are unforeseen issues and circumstances in relation to the project and should remain adaptable to perform responsibilities that may not be mentioned above as and when required.

  • Fluency in Dari, Pashto, and English (spoken and written); knowledge of Uzbeki is an advantage.

  • Minimum of 3 years of proven experience in supervision or program implementation in a humanitarian or development setting.
  • Prior experience in livelihoods, vocational training, or food security-related projects is desirable.
  • Familiarity with community-based programming and the operational context of Sar-e-Pul Province.

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Economics, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Very good written and oral English skills, experience in usage of digital data collection platforms, i.e., MODA, KOBO, etc.
  • Experience working with rural communities, producer groups and knowledge of local livelihood practices.
  • Strong facilitation, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Good technical reporting and communication skills.
