Job Description:

Purpose of the Position:

The Site Engineer will be based full-time at the project site(s) and will be responsible for the direct supervision and verification of all civil and check dam-related construction activities. This includes ensuring adherence to technical designs, specifications, environmental and safety regulations, and timelines. The Site Engineer will act as a field-level focal point for technical implementation and coordination with contractors and community stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

Construction Supervision & Quality Control:

  • Monitor daily construction activities for check dams, and related rainwater collection events and facilities.
  • Ensure construction work is executed per approved designs, technical specifications, and quality standards.
  • Conduct regular field measurements, check levels and alignments, and validate use of materials.
  • Identify and report any design or implementation discrepancies and propose corrective actions.

Technical Support & Documentation:

  • Review and interpret technical drawings and BOQs; provide clarification to the contractor as needed.
  • Maintain daily site logs, work progress sheets, and photo documentation of construction stages.
  • Assist in the preparation of as-built drawings and verification of work quantities for contractor billing.

Contractor Coordination:

  • Liaise with contractors to ensure timely mobilization, resource allocation, and productivity.
  • Assist the Project Supervisor in assessing contractor performance and progress against milestones.
  • Coordinate timely resolution of site-level issues affecting construction timelines or quality.

Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance:

  • Monitor compliance with HSE standards and ensure all workers are equipped with the required PPE.
  • Immediately report any safety hazards or accidents and ensure corrective actions are taken.
  • Support environmental safeguards implementation during construction activities (e.g., erosion control, debris management).

Community & Stakeholder Interaction:

  • Coordinate closely with community elders and local authorities to facilitate smooth field implementation.
  • Address basic community concerns and report unresolved issues to the Project Supervisor.
  • Support awareness sessions related to water safety and hygiene promotion, if required.
  • Ensure adherence to MHI Code of Conduct and contractual agreement
  • Ensure sound coordination mechanism with local stakeholders and make sure community engagement and ownership is considered during project implementation

Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications and Experience:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (specialization in Water Resources or Environmental Engineering is an asset).

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on field experience in supervising the construction of hydraulic structures, water supply systems, or Irrigation infrastructure.
  • Prior experience with rural development projects or DRR-focused infrastructure is an advantage.

Technical Skills:

  • Solid knowledge of concrete and masonry structures, pipe networks, erosion control measures, and Irrigation infrastructure.
  • Ability to use surveying tools, field-level engineering software (AutoCAD, GPS tools), and conduct
