The Asset Management Officer (AMO) is responsible for managing AAMS’s financial assets and client portfolios, ensuring timely disbursement, recovery, and Sharia-compliant execution of all financing operations. This role bridges the gap between financial stewardship and client relationship management, ensuring that assets are deployed efficiently, risks are mitigated, and portfolio quality is maintained at the highest standards. The AMO will report to the Manager – Operations and coordinate closely with the Finance, Compliance, and Branch teams to maintain transparency, accountability, and performance across all financing activities.
General Responsibilities:

- Manage and oversee disbursement and recovery processes of all client assets and financial products under AAMS.
- Ensure asset management and recovery practices comply with Sharia principles, focusing on transparency, fairness, and client trust.
- Maintain accurate asset and financing records, including Murabaha agreements, repayment schedules, and portfolio balances.
- Monitor asset performance indicators such as Portfolio-at-Risk (PAR), on-time recovery rates, and operational efficiency.
- Lead client assessments and financial due diligence to ensure appropriate financing decisions.
- Coordinate with Operations and Finance teams to ensure accurate reporting, reconciliations, and liquidity management.
- Develop and implement asset tracking systems to minimize delinquency and improve recovery performance.
- Promote financial literacy and responsible financing practices among clients and field staff.
- Support branch-level financial performance reviews, identifying underperforming assets and corrective measures.
- Ensure full compliance with Da Afghanistan Bank (DAB) regulations and AAMS operational policies
Specific Responsibilities:
Asset and Portfolio Management
- Plan and execute disbursement cycles, ensuring timeliness, documentation accuracy, and Sharia compliance.
- Oversee Murabaha, Ijarah, and Qard-al-Hasan contracts, ensuring they are structured and recorded correctly.
- Assess client creditworthiness through thorough analysis of income, repayment capacity, and collateral (where applicable).
- Approve or recommend loans within delegated authority, ensuring alignment with MFI policies and Sharia principles when applicable.
- Conduct regular asset audits and reconciliations between field data and financial records.
- Implement strategies for portfolio quality improvement, including proactive follow-ups and restructuring where necessary.
- Analyze trends in asset utilization, delinquency, and repayment behavior to support decision-making.
Recovery and Risk Management
- Design and enforce recovery mechanisms that uphold client dignity and institutional ethics.
- Engage with clients facing financial stress to identify faith-aligned, fair solutions.
- Collaborate with Compliance and Legal teams to manage recoveries within institutional policies and Sharia frameworks.
- Provide accurate recovery and default reports to management with recommendations for portfolio improvement.
Capacity Building and Team Support
- Train branch and field staff on Islamic asset management, client engagement, and ethical recovery.
- Participate in internal learning initiatives to enhance team understanding of Sharia-compliant finance operations.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of standard operating procedures (SOPs) forasset management.
Job Requirements:
Education & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, or Business Administration (Master’s preferred).
- Training or certification in Islamic microfinance or Sharia-compliant lending is an asset.
Experience
- 3–5 years of experience in microfinance operations, portfolio management, or asset recovery.
- Proven experience managing Islamic financing instruments or working with clients in a Sharia-compliant financial environment.
- Strong knowledge of credit/asset risk assessment, repayment cycles, and financial documentation.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent interpersonal communication and client-handling skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting/MIS software.
- High ethical standards and integrity in dealing with client and institutional funds.
- Fluency in English, Dari, and Pashto.
