Organization for humanitarian Assistance (OHA), established in the year 12. January. 1994 is an Afghan, non-profit, non-governmental and non- political organization, cooperative partner of UN and other international organizations implementing developmental and humanitarian projects in the southern region of Afghanistan. OHA strives to contribute to the achievement of sustainable development goals (SDGs) while strictly adhering the humanitarian principles, and key elements of good governance; participation, transparency and accountability. The intention is to alleviate sever suffering, spread awareness, enable people to become self-employed and self-dependent at village, district and city levels for boosting rural and urban economy and livelihood in consultation with donors and local communities.

Job Description:

Job Purpose:

The Agriculture Expert is responsible for planning, implementing, monitoring, and providing technical guidance for agricultural activities within the project in Nimroz Province. The role supports farmers, community groups, and project partners through capacity building, demonstrations, field visits, and technical advisory services to improve crop productivity, climate-resilient agriculture, sustainable water management, and market linkages.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct agricultural assessments and identify key crop and livestock challenges in Nimroz Province.
  • Provide technical guidance on crop production, irrigation practices, soil fertility management, pest control, and climate-smart agriculture.
  • Support establishment of demonstration plots, farmer field schools, and training sessions.
  • Assist in designing and implementing improved irrigation systems, water conservation methods, and drought-resilient farming.
  • Oversee distribution of agricultural inputs (seeds, tools, fertilizers) and ensure quality compliance.
  • Promote sustainable agriculture practices, including IPM (Integrated Pest Management), organic methods, and water-efficient techniques.
  • Develop training materials and deliver practical trainings to farmers, women groups, and extension workers.
  • Provide continuous field-level coaching and advisory support.
  • Strengthen farmers’ knowledge on crop selection, post-harvest handling, storage, and basic value-addition.
  • Conduct regular field visits to monitor project progress and provide technical recommendations.
  • Collect and analyze data on crop performance, irrigation efficiency, and farmer adoption rates.
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly technical reports.
  • Document success stories, lessons learned, and technical inputs for donor reporting.
  • Coordinate with local authorities, community elders, farmer groups, and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with procurement and logistics teams to ensure timely delivery of agricultural materials.
  • Participate in project coordination meetings and technical working groups when required

 

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Horticulture, or related fields (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Minimum 3–5 years of relevant experience in agriculture, livelihoods, rural development, or extension work.
  • Experience working in Nimroz or other arid/climate-challenged regions is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience with NGOs, government development programs, or international organizations is an advantage.
  • Strong understanding of crop production in dry-climate environments (e.g., wheat, vegetables, dates, melon, saffron).
  • Knowledge of irrigation systems (solar pumps, drip irrigation, flood irrigation).
  • Ability to deliver farmer trainings and manage demonstration plots.
  • Familiarity with market linkages, value chains, and agriculture-based livelihoods.
  • Competent in data collection tools (Kobo, ODK) is an asset.
  • Strong communication and community-mobilization skills.
  • Ability to work independently and under challenging field conditions.
  • Good report writing skills in Dari, Pashto, and English.

Working Conditions

  • Frequent travel to district and village-level project sites.
  • Willingness to work in remote areas under hot climate and rough terrain (common in Nimroz).
