Organization for humanitarian Assistance (OHA), established in the year 12. January. 1994 is an Afghan, non-profit, non-governmental and non- political organization, cooperative partner of UN and other international organizations implementing developmental and humanitarian projects in the southern region of Afghanistan. OHA strives to contribute to the achievement of sustainable development goals (SDGs) while strictly adhering the humanitarian principles, and key elements of good governance; participation, transparency and accountability. The intention is to alleviate sever suffering, spread awareness, enable people to become self-employed and self-dependent at village, district and city levels for boosting rural and urban economy and livelihood in consultation with donors and local communities.

Our areas of work include; irrigation (canals, culverts, bridges, flood protection), education (schools, literacy, awareness campaigns), road (structure and construction), capacity building (management training, vocational training), drinking water (drilling wells and extending water supply), health system (construction of infrastructure), provision of humanitarian assistance during natural and human made disasters.

Job Description:

Job Purpose:

The Marketing and Value Chain Expert is responsible for leading all activities related to market linkages, value chain development, business advisory services, and income-generation support within the TDH Project in Nimroz. The role focuses on strengthening the economic resilience of rural households by improving market access, mapping local value chains, identifying viable business opportunities, and enabling producer groups—especially women and vulnerable households—to participate in sustainable markets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct detailed mapping of local and regional value chains relevant to Nimroz (e.g., livestock, dairy, horticulture, vegetables, dates, handicrafts, poultry, small enterprises).
  • Analyze market gaps, pricing dynamics, supply/demand trends, and opportunities for rural producers.
  • Identify high-potential value chains that can contribute to household income and resilience.
  • Assess constraints faced by farmers, women-led enterprises, and rural producers—such as input access, processing, packaging, transportation, or market information.
  • Facilitate linkages between producers, cooperatives, local traders, wholesalers, processors, and regional markets.
  • Support establishment or strengthening of producer groups, cooperatives, small farmer associations, and women economic networks.
  • Organize marketing exposure visits, buyer-seller meetings, and networking events.
  • Identify opportunities for collective marketing, improved negotiation, and bulk selling.
  • Provide technical guidance to rural households on feasible income-generating activities aligned with market demand.
  • Support micro-enterprise development for women, youth, and vulnerable groups.
  • Assist in designing business models for agriculture, livestock, handicrafts, or small industry sectors.
  • Provide coaching on business planning, pricing, product quality, branding, and financial literacy.
  • Support producers in product improvement, quality control, post-harvest handling, storage, and packaging.
  • Identify opportunities for small-scale processing (drying, grading, cleaning, dairy processing, etc.).
  • Promote climate-resilient and economically viable practices that add value to primary products.
  • Develop training modules on marketing, value chain development, entrepreneurship, and group management.
  • Deliver practical trainings to farmers, women groups, SMEs, and village associations.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and mentoring on market practices and enterprise sustainability.
  • Support the project MEAL team with data collection, progress tracking, and value chain monitoring.
  • Prepare technical reports, market assessments, and monthly activity updates.
  • Coordinate with government bodies, community committees, and other NGOs working on livelihoods.

 

Job Requirements:

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Business Administration, Agribusiness, Development Studies, Marketing, or relevant field (Master’s preferred).
  • Minimum 3–5 years of professional experience in marketing, value chain development, enterprise development, or livelihoods.
  • Experience in rural development and community-based programming in Afghanistan, preferably in Nimroz.
  • Experience working with NGOs, INGOs, or development projects (TDH experience is an asset).
  • Strong understanding of rural markets, agricultural value chains, and small enterprise ecosystems.
  • Skills in conducting market assessments, feasibility studies, and value chain mapping.
  • Ability to train and mentor rural communities, women groups, and small producers.
  • Practical knowledge of business planning, cost-benefit analysis, product improvement, and market linkages.
  • Good ability to collect and analyze data.
  • Knowledge of local market structures in Nimroz and neighboring regions.

Soft Skills

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and facilitation skills.
  • Strong coordination abilities with private sector, government, and community groups.
  • Ability to work independently in challenging field conditions.
  • Strong report-writing skills in Dari, Pashto, and English.

Working Conditions

  • Frequent field travel to rural villages, community groups, and market centers.
  • Ability to work in hot climate conditions typical of Nimroz Province.
  • Interaction with vulnerable communities, requiring high professionalism and cultural sensitivity.
