January. 1994 is an Afghan, non-profit, non-governmental and non- political organization, cooperative partner of UN and other international organizations implementing developmental and humanitarian projects in the southern region of Afghanistan. Job Description:
Job Purpose:
The Mental Health & Psychosocial Expert is responsible for providing professional psychosocial support and counselling services to vulnerable individuals and communities affected by conflict, displacement, or trauma. The expert will also train community members and project staff on psychosocial care and mental health awareness..
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver individual and group psychosocial counselling sessions tailored to the needs of men, women, and children.
- Develop and implement psychosocial support programs and awareness activities.
- Train project staff and community volunteers on basic psychosocial support, trauma-informed care, and referral mechanisms.
- Facilitate community workshops to reduce stigma and promote mental health and well-being.
- Coordinate with local health and social services to ensure timely referral of clients.
- Monitor and document counselling activities and progress of beneficiaries.
- Provide technical advice on psychosocial issues within the project.
- Coordinate closely with community elders, religious leaders, schools, local authorities, and partner NGOs.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling, or related field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in psychosocial counselling and mental health support.
- Experience working in humanitarian or development settings, preferably with conflict-affected populations.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed counselling approaches.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Fluency in Dari and/or Pashto; English is an asset.
- Ability to work sensitively with both male and female clients.
