Job Description:
Job Purpose:
The WASH Project Officer will be responsible for supporting the implementation, monitoring, and reporting of WASH-related projects, particularly the inspection and execution of water and sanitation projects (such as well-digging, water schemes, solar-system and other water supply projects) across different areas. The officer will assist in conducting field visits, surveys, and needs assessments, as well as supporting the WASH Coordinator in preparing project proposals, concept notes, and ensuring the efficient delivery of WASH interventions.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Project Reporting:
Prepare comprehensive reports on the progress of WASH projects, with a focus on water and sanitation, including daily, weekly, and monthly reports.
Provide detailed analysis and documentation of activities related to the well-digging activities, water schemes, solar-system and other water supply projects.
Ensure accurate and timely submission of reports to the WASH Coordinator and other relevant stakeholders.
2. Field Visits and Inspections:
Conduct regular field visits to monitor the progress of WASH projects, particularly well-digging activities, water schemes, solar-system and other water supply projects.
Inspect water and sanitation infrastructures to ensure compliance with technical standards and environmental regulations.
Identify any challenges or areas for improvement during field visits and recommend solutions to enhance project outcomes.
3. Needs Assessment and Surveys:
Support the WASH Coordinator in conducting needs assessments to identify vulnerable communities lacking access to water and sanitation facilities.
Lead the implementation of surveys for the selection of project sites for the digging of wells and other WASH-related infrastructure.
Analyze survey data and present findings to the WASH Coordinator for planning and decision-making.
4. Project Planning and Proposal Development:
Assist the WASH Coordinator in preparing project proposals, including drafting sections on the technical, financial, and operational aspects of WASH interventions.
Contribute to the development and improvement of concept notes for new projects by conducting background research and providing relevant data.
Ensure proposals align with donor guidelines, organizational objectives, and local needs.
5. Stakeholder Engagement:
Liaise with local authorities, community leaders, and other stakeholders to facilitate the selection of project sites and ensure community participation.
Work closely with field teams, contractors, and technical staff to coordinate the implementation of water and sanitation projects.
Ensure community awareness and engagement in project activities, particularly around the maintenance and sustainability of WASH facilities.
6. Capacity Building and Training:
Organize and facilitate training sessions for community members and local partners on the proper use and maintenance of WASH facilities, especially water supply systems.
Support capacity-building initiatives to improve the technical skills of local staff and stakeholders involved in WASH projects.
7. Data Management and Monitoring:
Collect and maintain accurate data on WASH project activities, including well-digging, water schemes, solar-system and other water supply projects and infrastructure development.
Track project progress and indicators to ensure compliance with targets and standards.
Prepare and maintain databases related to water, sanitation, and hygiene activities for future planning and reporting.
8. Budget and Resource Management:
Assist the WASH Coordinator in managing the project budget, ensuring resources are allocated efficiently.
Support procurement processes for WASH-related materials and services, ensuring that quality standards are met.
9. Other Duties:
Perform any other tasks assigned by the WASH Coordinator to ensure the smooth implementation of WASH interventions.
Ensure that all WASH projects adhere to national and international standards, including environmental sustainability.
Job Requirements:
Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Water Resource Management, or related field.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in WASH project implementation, monitoring, and reporting, preferably in humanitarian or development contexts.
Proven experience in conducting field visits, needs assessments, and project site selection for water and sanitation infrastructure.
Strong analytical and report-writing skills.
Proficiency in project proposal development and donor reporting.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with local authorities, community members, and other stakeholders.
Proficient in data management and monitoring tools.
Ability to work in remote areas and under challenging conditions.
Familiar with the Auto-CAD and other engineering related software.
