Job Description:

1. Psychosocial Counselling & Support:

  • Provide individual and group counseling to patients and their families to address emotional and psychological needs.
  • Offer psychosocial support to patients experiencing trauma, grief, stress, anxiety, and other mental health challenges.
  • Assist in developing personalized care plans for patients in need of psychological support.
  • Conduct regular follow-ups with patients to monitor progress and adjust care plans as necessary.

2. Mental Health Awareness & Education:

  • Educate patients, families, and the community on mental health issues, stress management, and coping strategies.
  • Raise awareness about the importance of mental health and the services available to support individuals.
  • Promote positive mental health practices within the community, emphasizing the importance of mental well-being.

3. Case Management & Referrals:

  • Assess the psychosocial needs of patients and refer them to appropriate mental health professionals or support services as needed.
  • Coordinate with other health professionals to ensure comprehensive care for patients, including referrals to specialized mental health services.
  • Keep accurate records of counseling sessions, including treatment plans, progress notes, and case management details.

4. Crisis Intervention & Emergency Support:

  • Provide immediate psychosocial support to individuals in crisis, such as those affected by accidents, natural disasters, or violent events.
  • Work with the healthcare team to support individuals through emergencies and trauma recovery.
  • Assist in managing critical situations involving mental health, including self-harm or suicidal ideation, and ensure timely referral to mental health specialists.

5. Group Therapy & Support Sessions:

  • Organize and facilitate group therapy sessions for patients dealing with similar challenges, such as grief, trauma, or stress.
  • Encourage peer support and create a safe space for patients to share experiences and learn coping strategies from one another.
  • Foster a sense of community and belonging among individuals who may feel isolated due to their mental health challenges.

6. Documentation & Reporting:

  • Maintain detailed and confidential records of all counseling sessions and support provided to patients.
  • Prepare regular reports on psychosocial support activities, including the number of patients served, types of issues addressed, and outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with ethical and legal standards regarding patient confidentiality and data protection.

7. Collaboration with Healthcare Team:

  • Work closely with doctors, nurses, and other health professionals to provide comprehensive care to patients.
  • Participate in team meetings to discuss patient cases, share insights, and contribute to treatment plans.
  • Provide guidance and support to healthcare workers on recognizing and addressing psychosocial concerns in patients.

8. Community Outreach & Support:

  • Organize and participate in community outreach programs to promote mental health awareness and encourage individuals to seek help when needed.
  • Engage in community-based efforts to reduce the stigma around mental health and promote the importance of emotional well-being.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Sociology, or a related field.
  • Certification or license in counseling or psychosocial support is preferred.
  • Minimum of 4-5 years of experience providing counseling or psychosocial support services.
  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed care and mental health issues.
  • Excellent communication, empathy, and interpersonal skills.

  • Knowledge of mental health crisis intervention techniques and emotional support strategies.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.

Language Proficiency:

  • Fluency in both national language (Dari & Pashto) oral and written
  • Fluency in English is a must both oral and written
