Job Description:

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct detailed value chain analyses and rapid enterprise capacity assessments for agribusiness grant recipients.
  • Provide hands-on technical advisory to enterprises on improving productivity, post-harvest management, primary processing, and quality control.
  • Support the development, refinement, and technical validation of commercially viable business and investment plans.
  • Identify key market constraints and opportunities, and facilitate direct linkages between producers, processors, aggregators, and buyers.
  • Integrate climate-smart agricultural practices, sustainable resource management, and resilience-building into all advisory services.
  • Lead the diagnostic assessment of at least 150 agribusinesses to establish a baseline of their technical, operational, and financial capacities.
  • Develop tailored technical improvement plans for each supported enterprise, focusing on specific upgrades (e.g., seed systems, irrigation efficiency, storage facilities, simple processing equipment).
  • Conduct field demonstrations and practical training sessions on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), integrated pest management, and climate-resilient farming techniques.
  • Collect, analyze, and report on production data, yield improvements, and cost-benefit analyses to measure the impact of technical interventions.
  • Prepare the technical agriculture and value chain sections of all project progress reports, detailing interventions and quantifiable results.

Job Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agri-Business, Agricultural Economics, or a related field. Master’s preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in agricultural value chain development and agribusiness support in Afghanistan.
  • Donor Experience: At least 3 years of experience working on internationally-funded agriculture or livelihood projects in complex operational environments.
  • Technical Skills: Proven ability to conduct field assessments, develop business plans, and provide practical agri-advisory services.
  • Languages: Fluency in Dari and/or Pashto is essential. Working knowledge of English for reporting is required.
