Job Description:

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Advise supported agribusinesses on national and international quality, food safety, and packaging standards relevant to their products.
  • Develop and deliver training programs on quality control, quality assurance, and basic certification processes (e.g., HACCP, ISO 22000).
  • Facilitate linkages with national standards bodies (e.g., ANSA), certification agencies, and testing laboratories.
  • Support enterprises in preparing for audits and obtaining necessary quality certifications to access higher-value markets.
  • Develop simple quality management manuals and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for beneficiary enterprises.
  • Conduct quality and food safety gap analyses for selected processing and packaging enterprises to identify critical control points.
  • Guide enterprises in establishing basic in-house quality control labs or procedures for raw material inspection and finished product testing.
  • Develop bilingual (Dari/Pashto-English) training materials and checklists on Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and hygiene protocols.
  • Track and report on the certification readiness status of supported enterprises and any certifications achieved during the project period.
  • Work closely with the Marketing Specialist to ensure product branding and labeling comply with all regulatory and standard requirements.

Job Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Food Science & Technology, Quality Management, Agricultural Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in quality management, standards compliance, or certification processes, preferably within the agri-food or light manufacturing sectors in Afghanistan.
  • Donor Experience: Experience working on donor-funded projects with a focus on value addition, food safety, or market standards is preferred.
  • Technical Skills: In-depth knowledge of Afghan and relevant international quality and food safety standards. Experience with audit processes is key.
  • Languages: Fluency in Dari and/or Pashto is essential. Proficiency in English for technical documentation is required.
