Watan’s Social & Technical Services Association (WSTA) is an Afghan non-profit organization founded in 1992 to deliver humanitarian assistance to the country’s most vulnerable communities. Registered with the Ministry of Economy (License No. 352) and UNOPS, and a proud member of ANCB and ACBAR, we have implemented over 250 projects across 20 provinces in partnership with UNHCR, UNDP, WFP, IOM, CARE, and many others.

From our Kabul headquarters and 10 provincial offices, our 400 dedicated staff (including 80 talented women) provide shelter, food, water, education, livelihoods, and protection—always with a special focus on empowering women and children affected by conflict.

Job Description:

We’re looking for a passionate and experienced Senior Proposal Writer/Fundraising  to join us in Kabul and play a pivotal role in securing the funding that keeps our life-changing programs running. Reporting to the Program Director, you’ll work closely with senior leadership and field teams to craft winning proposals that bring hope and resilience to Afghan families.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the full cycle of high-value proposals and concept notes for major donors including UNHCR, UNDP, UNICEF, WFP, USAID, EU, FCDO, GAC, and others.
  • Guide Go/No-Go decisions, run kick-off meetings, and facilitate collaborative workshops with program, finance, MEAL, and field colleagues.
  • Write compelling, evidence-based narratives, logframes, theories of change, risk analyses, and sustainability plans that truly reflect the realities on the ground.
  • Partner with the Finance team to create realistic, fully costed budgets and clear budget narratives.
  • Research donor priorities and emerging opportunities to keep our proposals perfectly aligned.
  • Maintain our funding pipeline, donor database, and opportunity tracker.
  • Prepare capacity statements, past performance references, and organizational profiles.
  • Support rapid-response funding bids during emergencies.
  • Mentor Afghan colleagues in proposal writing and donor compliance, helping build long-term capacity.
  • Represent WSTA in donor meetings and partnership discussions when needed.
  • Ensure every submission meets donor branding, formatting, and compliance standards.
  • Archive proposals and documents for institutional learning and audits.

Job Requirements:

Who We’re Looking For

  • Minimum 5 years of dedicated proposal/grant writing experience in the humanitarian or development sector.
  • Proven success securing large grants from UN agencies, USAID, EU, or similar donors.
  • Outstanding English writing skills—clear, persuasive, and heartfelt.
  • Comfortable with budgets, logframes, and donor rules.
  • A collaborative team player with cultural sensitivity and a genuine commitment to Afghanistan’s future.
