Job Summary

A Poultry Veterinarian is responsible for maintaining the health, welfare, and productivity of poultry flocks. The role includes disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, biosecurity management, and advising farm management on best poultry health practices to ensure optimal production and food safety.

Key Responsibilities

Monitor and evaluate the health status of poultry flocks

Diagnose, treat, and prevent poultry diseases

Design and implement vaccination and biosecurity programs

Prescribe and supervise the proper use of veterinary medicines

Conduct post-mortem examinations to identify causes of mortality

Advise on nutrition, housing, hygiene, and environmental management

Ensure compliance with animal health, welfare, and food safety standards

Maintain accurate health, treatment, and production records

Train farm staff on disease control and biosecurity measures

Respond to disease outbreaks and emergency health situations

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) ( Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine)

Specialization or experience in poultry health (preferred)

Valid veterinary license (as required by local authority)

Skills & Competencies

Strong knowledge of poultry diseases and management

Ability to analyze flock performance and health data

Good communication and training skills

Problem-solving and decision-making abilities

Willingness to work on farms and in field conditions

Work Environment

Poultry farms (broiler, layer, breeder)
