About Kunduz Rehabilitation Agency:
Kunduz Rehabilitation Agency (KRA) is an NGO that was established in Kunduz city of In Afghanistan in 1995. KRA emerged from Afghanaid
International UK NGO and was named after the city of Kunduz, where it was established. The reason for Afghanaid to establish KRA was due
to the constant internal conflicts and warlord fights that made it impossible for Afghanaid to continue its operations in the region. Therefore,
Afghanaid decided to hand over its ongoing projects to KRA for the betterment of the community in all over Afghanistan. Since its inception,
KRA has been committed to uplifting the downtrodden, disadvantaged, and vulnerable groups of people in Afghanistan. KRA firmly believes

Job Description:
The District Livestock Officer will serve a critical technical role in the implementation of the "Strengthening Access to Essential Food Security and Health Services (Support for Afghan People)" Project (OSRO/AFG/155/ASB) in Kunduz province. This position will deliver on-the-ground livestock extension support to beneficiary households, ensuring the effective use of FAO-supported inputs such as animal feeding packages, small and large ruminants, and other essential animal husbandry resources.
The District Livestock Officer will conduct regular visits to beneficiary households to offer practical advice on improving livestock production, animal health, nutrition, housing, and management practices, emphasizing climate-smart and resilient livestock systems. Responsibilities will include delivering hands-on training, field demonstrations, and organizing Farmer Field Schools (FFS) to enhance the technical knowledge and skills of farmers, particularly among women and vulnerable groups.
In close collaboration with the Project Agronomist, FAO technical staff, veterinarians, and local agricultural and livestock authorities, the District Livestock Officer will facilitate effective input utilization, boost livestock productivity, improve household nutrition and income, and strengthen resilience within vulnerable communities.
KRA adheres to safe and PSEA-sensitive human resources practices throughout recruitment, contracting, and performance management processes to ensure the safety and well-being of all staff and beneficiaries. KRA maintains a zero-tolerance policy regarding Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (SEA).
Job Requirements:
- Assist beneficiary households in enhancing livestock production through the adoption of FAO-recommended animal husbandry and management practices.
- Provide expert guidance on livestock housing, hygiene, and biosecurity measures to minimize disease risks.
- Advise farmers on animal nutrition and feeding strategies, including ration formulation, fodder production, feed conservation methods and efficient feed utilization.
- Promote sustainable and climate-smart livestock practices, which include effective manure management, water-efficient livestock systems, and resilience to climate-related challenges.
- Conduct hands-on training sessions, Livestock Farmer Field Schools (LFFS), and practical demonstrations focused on livestock management, animal health, and boosting productivity.
- Support beneficiaries in managing animal health, which includes vaccination schedules, deworming, parasite control, and early disease detection strategies.
- Facilitate collaboration with local veterinarians and DAIL livestock departments for disease reporting, vaccination campaigns, and technical support.
- Ensure the proper and timely application of FAO-distributed livestock inputs, including dairy kits, poultry, small ruminants, feed, and veterinary supplies.
- Conduct regular field visits to monitor livestock health, productivity, survival rates, and management practices at the household level.
- Promote milk hygiene, safe handling practices, and basic processing techniques, while encouraging the involvement of women and providing targeted support to women-headed and vulnerable households.
- Conduct ongoing monitoring and collect field data on livestock inputs, animal health, production performance, mortality rates, and the adoption of improved practices.
- Prepare straightforward field and technical reports, including training records, monitoring checklists, progress updates, and documentation of lessons learned and success stories.
- Ensure full compliance with FAO’s environmental, safeguarding, gender, and PSEA policies, and undertake other relevant duties as assigned by the Agronomist and supervisors
